As some on here know I've been kicking around getting a Sport as there's just not enough room in the Ski now that the kids are bigger and want to start bringing friends along.
Well it's time to make it happen so if anyone knows of a '99 era sport for sale let me know.
In the mean time my wife has told me that I can't have 3 boats so the '95 Signature Edition is for sale now.

More pictures to follow now that Kostas showed me how to post from my Ipad.

Thanks guys but let me narrow it down a little more...
Has to be at least a '99 because of the walk through (don't want the playpen front)
Has to be a direct drive, don't care for the rear pushers to much.
Would like to still have a decent ski wake (ski type hull)
and would like to stay under 18,000
That's why I think the '99 or early 2000 era

I found one southwest of Detroit that may fit the bill if anyone is in that area could take a peak see

I can see Paul jumping on that first one with aforementioned tube storage and all, but with out a GT 40 it would be a tough sell. Second one won’t happen either even though it looks like a nice one if you want a v drive

Paul:
There's a '98 Ski (Masters Green/Zephyr) on Norris Lake (friend of AirTique- Bill). It's like the one in the diaries - no walk-through Ski. I've seen pics and it looks great. Bill has seen the boat and gives the boat and the owner a thumbs up. Around $14,000, IIRC.

Paul, how far sw of Detroit? I’m at our lake house this week outside of Brooklyn, Mi. and Mich.igan Speedway. About 90 miles pretty much straight west of Detroit.   I’d consider a 20-30 mile road trip. It’s work on house week (vacation time) so can’t roam to far.

Paul if you've ruled out '98's I understand, just wanted to say that after years of use I don't find the playpen to be an issue in mine. Adults don't usually sit up there, and kids like the lean back and stretch out of the playpen. Definitely more walking over cushions to get to the bow than if you had the walk-thru, but not an issue for me.

We have a 2000 that we leave the bow center cushion in almost 24/7 for the kids. The bow isn't really deep enough anyway for leg room, not to mention that large so I wouldn't rule out a playpen either...

If we had a comparable V-drive on the line we'd sell you ours

Paul my favourite part of the playpen was capturing this picture of my old mate Anakin enjoying time on the water together :)
One other pro is that you are able to slide small ski's up under the floor of the playpen

I’m thinking of selling my 2000 Sport.    GT 40, tower, ballast tanks, tandem axel trailer, etc. let me know if you are interested. It’s on Mousam lake in Shapleigh, ME if you want to google map the distance. I told the boat storage people if I were to sell it would be $16,500.

This one should have some room for negotiation because it needs vinyl. Also don't love the tower, but that's a personal preference, I guess.

Several Sports have been popping up with factory ballast.
I looked at the brochure and can see where the water enters but how do they fill and then how do they empty. Pumps???

Posted By: 63 Skier
Date Posted: July-05-2018 at 3:08pm
Mine was already removed when I got the boat, but I went on a test drive on a '99 Sport with ballast. It fills by opening a fill valve and driving slowly forward. It empties by gravity, I think slightly faster if you are moving forward. My sense is that most people have removed the factory ballast as it's only 50 gallons=400 lbs. I like having the trunk space with it removed, and have used a pair of 400 lb. ballast bags on each side of the doghouse when wakeboarding. Maybe it would be nice to have in addition to ballast beside the motor, I'm not sure what would work best.

Thanks David
I'm guessing they're not hard to remove, I think I would want the extra space right now and add sack's and reinstall them if I want later.

Posted By: Hollywood
Date Posted: July-05-2018 at 4:04pm
The hard tanks are a huge waste of space. You'll have to trim out some of the trunk after taking them out but it's easy.

Posted By: bkhallpass
Date Posted: July-05-2018 at 4:26pm
The ballast on the early boats was not that great. There is a pump, but they are kind of slow. The biggest issue is that the water comes in and out through the same spot at the bottom of boat/tank. I think it was 2002, or 2003 when they installed separate intake and expunge pumps with the water going out the side like a bildge pump.

The ballast does work, just not great.

Most people who really want to weight the boat down have removed the tanks and use bags. The factory ballast is not very heavy, and takes up a lot of space when using, or not. I've got a couple of friends who never used the ballast anyway, so they just removed for more storage space.

Paul with the tanks removed the rear locker is huge as the fuel tank is under and behind the rear seat. You can even get clear access to the rudder from the rear locker. No point in saving those tanks just get the sawzall out. (weird US name reciprocating saw down under )

Isn't using the term sawsall much like calling a tissue a Kleenex? It's a brand name that has come to mean the item. Mark does the term napkin still mean to you something other than a cloth or paper used to wipe your hands or face while eating?

Normally, unless ordered differently, the Sports do not have the factory hard tanks. The Air Nautiques do have the factory hard tanks. Some Air Nautiques have a small belly tank for trick skiing. Some boats were ordered with different decals ( Air , Not Air) as per the owners preface.

That has to be a scam. It shows up in my New England search. Been working with my contractor. I’m so close to being done on the camp. Thinking of a vintage mustang/Barcuda and a pontoon boat. I’m thinking seriously of selling my 2000 sport. Read the right up in the diaries. It has 515 hrs. Original speedo and tack. Do they work? Find of. But the hour meter is clear . If I keep it, this fall I’ll have the gauges replaced professional   So the hour are documented.

This may be worth checking out. Hard to tell, but looks like an 02 Sport Nautique.

[Quote=gun-driver] Thanks Mark looking for ‘99 or newer < 18k that’s never towed a tube, has some black or blue in its color scheme, owned by a couple named Mike and Sandy and serial number ends in an even number. Nice to have but not absolutely necessary a PA registration number so I don’t have to buy new decals.[Quote]

Gun, did you call on that ‘02?

Date Posted: July-19-2018 at 2:26pm
Mark, how about a 72 skier? Or anyone else for that matter. Buddy has one he is ready to part with. Does run but hasn’t seen water in a few years. 302, blue gel hull with some cracking, white deck. I do believe it would look decent with some love, Square windshield,
I’d buy it if my wife would let me. Located in NW corner of CT. From the numbers he told me I think it would be a nice project boat for someone with the CC passion.....

Hey Burton, thanks for the tip. I would definitely be interested in seeing some pictures. It's an easy drive up to see it for sure. I'm also thinking of calling on the '78 Tique we were discussing a week or so ago. While a pretty tiny boat, my kiddies are small right now ;-), I can easily tow it, and it would be something to at least get on the water next season...

The one in Traverse City? To tell the truth I've been so busy I haven't had time.

I'm still looking for the one Gary posted about

Yeah, let me know when you find Gary's boat.

I might have missed it on the thread, but other than the rear storage locker that appeared in '98 if I recall, the differences are very minor. All open bow, all have the under floor and port-seat storage, etc.. I'm scratching my head on what changed in '99. Was the walk-through window different?

'98 has a flat "playpen" bow area. In '99 they made it a true walk-thru with a depressed foot area in the middle of the u-shaped cushions.

There's an excellent thread, I don't have time to find it right now but will try to do so later, that discusses the hulls of the Sport Nautiques. Try searching, it may come up.

For your consideration if you are still looking.

I would also be interested by those who are more knowledgable to know what a fair price for a boat like this is considering it needs a couple of new skins.

FYI I just bought new skins for some seats in my Super Sport. The rear sun deck which is a little larger was 525. seat bottoms were between 125 to 155 ea if that helps

Hey Wiskey, that's a nice low-hour northern boat (as usual). Looks super nice. Those skin tears at the seams are easily restitched by someone that works with vinyl, so not expensive at all, and absolutely no need to replace the skin.

As far as price, price seems fair, as it has a good trailer, I'd expect it to close to asks, depending on the seller's motivation. I had the same boat, and it's a great all-around family ski boat. You would not be disappointed. This boat looks to be well cared for.

My 2 cents..

That vinyl is a little beyond restitching, you can see cracking of it 90 degrees to the stitching both on the seat bottom and the rear deck. It does seem like a nice one though other than the tower and it gives you something to bargain with.

Shoot me a PM with some info. Now that the Sig is gone I have some room in the stable and I’m going to look at one this week hopefully.
The ‘02 in Traverse City never got back to me on my inquiries.

Thoughts on Excalibur verses GT-40 ???
I am a Ford guy and know my way around a GT-40 where I know nothing about the Chevy’s

Excalibur is a great motor. 2002 was a transition year from the GT-40 to the Excalibur. My 2002 got a GT 40. The 2002 Excalibur models had a difficult to change water pump impeller arrangement. A real knuckle buster. You can get it done but I heard you need a pint of blood when done. PCM fixed the issue for the 2003 Excalibur engines. I also hear that all years go through distributor caps faster than the Fords. The PCM caps are more costly when compare to the NAPA automotive that also work well. There is nothing marine about the PCM distributor cap. Other wise it is a great engine.

If you asked me which engine I'd prefer, I'd say GT-40. I just like the way a GT-40 runs, how it accelerates out of the hole, etc. Excal is outstanding, nothing wrong with it, just a personal preference.

Keep in mind the issue of not many GT-40 ECM's being around at this point. There are work-arounds that have been developed, but it's worth noting.

I remember seeing this one on craigslist last summer also.

Might be a good project or it might have to many unknowns.
