Well the time has come that we have outgrown our 2001. It has been a fantastic boat but with me, my wife, a 14 year old Daughter and a 95 pound 4'-6" 6 year old son the boat is getting crowded when out on the lake with skis, Wakeboards, ropes, cooler, etc... especially if the kids have brought friends along. I hate to sell this boat as I have put so much work into it (See the build thread link below) but it is time to do so and look for something bigger. I am not sure on what to ask for it though. It is in perfect mechanical condition and it only has a few cosmetic flaws with most everything on the boat being new. The boat, engine and transmission have around 850 original hours on it. Here is a quick list of the boat repairs completed since 2012 when the stringer job was finished. I am working on a full list of everything the date it happened and the hours on the boat when it was completed. I also have the receipts for everything, owners manual, original brochures, PCM Service manual as well. I am the 3rd owner and have owned the boat since early 2006. Boat: New everything under the Floor, Foam, Stringers and all wood in the boat replaced using epoxy rosin. New Packing in Rudder and prop shaft New Carpet New Seat Bases Engine stripped and repainted. All cylinders compression within 3 psi of each other in a dry compression test. New Sunbrella Cover that covers the swim deck as well. New Ski Nautique side graphics New On board Battery charger Trailer: All new Wiring, All new LED lights All new Bunks All new Carpet Winch Mount Fabricated New Turn buckle New Boat buckle Transom straps New Trailer Jack New Bearings, seals and bearing buddies New Tires Cosmetic problems, Drivers seat cracking at the seam Slight oil leak from somewhere, I am thinking rear main seal right now. I have replaced many seals trying to fix it. It is not even enough to need to add oil over the whole summer, but it still annoys me! So what are boats in this condition going for these days? Great looking boat, and you’ll have no issues selling. $13k-&14k is high for that boat. You can buy a ‘97-‘99 TSC Nautique for that money, or a mint condition 90’s NWZ. I sold my great condition 1986 with 600 hours and new motor for $6,900 six years ago. My guess would be in the $7,500-$8,500 range. Definitely not advice coming from me, I’m a fan of 100% original. I also don’t believe in overloading any boat. Reality is that most people buy the 2001 Hull and convert it to a wake/surf boat. Nothing wrong with pricing on the higher side. Just think, your boat 34 years ago cost about $18k-20k. Lots of depreciation over 34 years, and these boats aren’t collectors items. I would pay $7k-8k to buy a very nice condition 2001 Hull boat. I can only relate my own experience. I bought a 1983 Ski Nautique in April of 2015 for $4500. It was in amazing cosmetic shape. The engine needed a little work but nothing major. I did buy it primarily for wakeboarding so I put a tower and ballast on it. In September 2018, I traded it for a 1995 Super Sport in great condition. They gave me $6k on the trade. I was out the door for about $11,000 with the Super Sport (including the $6k trade in money). The 2001 was in better shape than I bought it in. There was nothing wrong with it. My kids are just older now and we didn’t have room for everyone. Personally, I just don’t think there’s a market anymore for $10k+ 2001s. The ones I see asking more than that come down pretty quickly. Personally, I wouldn’t spend more than $7k for one regardless of the condition. I know that’s not what you want to hear but it’s based on my somewhat recent experience buying a 2001 and then later buying something I consider a major upgrade (even though I still miss the 2001). Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I know it’s not easy to let go of a 2001 in great shape. |
