Changed fuel filter & hose in the FCC.
Engine runs smooth but feel lacks a little power getting started and only reaches 4500 rpm's and should reach 4800 rpm's. Can get skier up ok.

Any thoughts?

Did it lose the power after your maintenance or in other words did it rev to 4800 and run as you expected before the filter and hose change?

it was running worse before I changed filter & hose. Filter was dirty. Before changing the filter max rpms were about 4300 so did get better & runs smoother.

Did it ever get up to the 4800? If so, did you change props?

Tight from the start this season it was not running right. Might of been the old gas, fuel filter & hose. Never did get it up to 4800 rpm same prop.

Have run enough fresh gas through so gas should be good. Had thought about taking it in for service but has been running good enough to keep skiing so don't want to miss skiing.

So I thought I would try the forum out & see if anything comes up

Add a quart of ATF to your full fuel tank and run the boat. It won't hurt anything but can lubricate and clean fuel injectors really well and quickly. It may be something unrelated to fuel but this is cheap and is worth a shot.
Hook a fuel pressure gauge up to your fuel rail and see what your running pressure is while you are accelerating.
I hope it is something simple and an easy fix.

Question and answer time

Does it fall flat on it's face like it's running out of gas or just max out at 4500 rpm ?

When's the last time the distributor cap and rotor have been replaced?

I'd look at the whole ignition system including the coil and plugs, plug wires in addition to the distributor as a start unless you have a really good reason to think it's fuel related.

plugs, rotor, distributer cap all replace about 30 hours ago or two years ago.
Have used sea foam in the gas so think injectors should be good.

Runs good and smooth at 4500 rpm's going 38 -39 mph

will check fuel pressure.

Thanks

Have you pulled the plugs to look at them this year?

They usually have a story to tell about your fuel and ignition systems
