Hello Fellow CC Fans, A few years ago I had the privilege of purchasing a 1975 SN that was advertised on this site. Most of you will remember it as the "50th Anniversary Edition" boat in California. It received great acclaim from most on this site, not withstanding the uncertainty of the "50th Anniversary Edition" claim. I want to give the previous owner Joel recognition for maintaining and preserving such a wonderful specimen. Thank you Joel! Great job! That being said, this boat had spent a lot of years running down the course at 36 mph, and it was ready for restoration. Just what I was looking for. I spent 3 years of restoring this boat in 3 stages. Every single square inch was refurbished or replaced. I won't bore you with the comprehensive list, which is 2 pages long. Some things restored include, but are not limited to: 1. Fully refurbished and powder coated trailer. 2. The graphics, windshield, deck hardware, and scoops "where removed and refurbished. 3. The hull was repaired were needed, sanded, polished, and new graphics (the non 50th motto) were added. 4. All dash components where removed and polished. The dash repainted, CB's added. New switches, cup holders, and mirror. 5. Floor repaired and Sea Dek Flooring installed. 6. New vinyl from C&S Marine 7. 100% engine component, wiring, and hose replacement. 8. Complete engine overhaul by Eagle Motorsports, Tyler Texas. As a 35 year inboard owner (my other one is a 2005 SN) and skier, If I had to sell one today, I don't know which one I would pick! This boat is so fun to drive! It is visceral, It is small, It rumbles. Everyone loves it. While it was (and is) our "On Golden Pond" boat, I actually ski it during the Spring and Fall when the 05' is pickled. The wake is just fine at 32', 35' and 38', although you are definitely into the spray! It is a better trick boat than my 05" Thanks for CCF for maintaining this forum as a great source for CC owners. Way to restore this without doing anything cringeworthy as so many do. Not one single modern nautique logo or drip mold decals, no silly engine bling, no subwoofer, no goofy painted hull. I have just painted my 1975 Ski Nautique and was wondering where you got the boostripe on the hullsides or if you just made it yourself. Also any idea where to get the original aluminum rub rail. Thanks Jon |

As for rub rail https://www.tacomarine.com/rub-rail-aluminum-a11-0152" rel="nofollow - this is the place who makes it. Obscenely expensive to ship because of it's length. Hello to all the wonderful CCFans that continue to respond to this posting, I just wanted to say again, Thank you for all of your kind responses! It is so meaningful coming from you all. In response to Mr. Bradford's question regarding the graphics: As "The Grand Pooba" posted earlier (Thank you GP), this boat had different graphics when delivered from the dealer. There is some dispute on whether the dealer or factory applied these unique graphics. I will never know. In any case, I wanted to go with the original scheme. After a ton of wet sanding and polishing, I was ready to go. Luckily, I stumbled upon a true Godsend, MrLetter.com 800 422-4231. He has the ability to reproduce either vinyl graphics, or paint mask for thousands of old boats. When I said I needed graphics for a 1975 SN, BOOM! No Problem! This was the biggest worry of my restoration, and he completely handled it. Can you imagine trying to re-create those graphics from scratch? Thank you MrLetter.com. I also want to thank Christines Marine 407 859-8559 for reproducing the seat skins. They have the all the old SN patterns, and did a wonderful job. I used Sea Dek for the floor. I love the results, but it is a difficult, expensive, and lengthy process. That being said, the final result is wonderful. Since they did not have templates for the older SN, I had to create them, If you have a similar vintage SN you want to install Sea Dek in, ask them to use the templates I created for the job. It will save you a lot of hassle. (note my boat has the storage shelves along the hull sides, yours may not). Much better than carpet (in my opinion) Discount Inboard Marine was invaluable in supplying great advice and parts galore. As I mentioned earlier, Thanks to CC Fan, and all the great folks that weighed in when I needed help. Finally, I have already skied behind it twice this week. My wife prefers driving it over our 2005 SN! Anybody in the market for an 05? Hahahahahaha! Regards, Todd |

Please tell us more about Mr.Letter.com. Did they send you a paint mask? Is that the direction you went or was in vinyl? Just curious because it looks great. Friends, This message is in response to Donald's question regarding the graphics. Mrletter has the ability to reproduce graphics for (I believe) thousands of old boats, including Nautiques. He can do vinyl or paint mask. After visiting with them, I decided to try vinyl for the following reasons: 1. If it did not work, it would be easily reversed. 2. Much less work than painting. 3. Easily repairable. (He will make any replacement piece you need.) 4. Inexpensive. 5. My boat is stored indoors 6 months, and when on the covered dock, it has a full cover that goes all the way below the chines. While I was leaning to paint, I tried this first, and it worked beautifully! It took about 3 days to apply all the graphics (you know all the convex and concave curves on a SN Hull). It is as glossy as the original paint, colorfast, smooth, no wrinkles, and has crisp lines. They have been on the boat for 2 seasons, and look just like they did when I applied them, with no failures of any kind. He can also do a paint mask. Applying the mask prior to paint would be slightly more involved that the vinyl letters due to the large surface area of the mask, and the wrinkles that would occur and have to be corrected before paint. I would do the same thing if I had it to do over. I hope this helps. Todd |
