I just called in to the Depot to inform them I will now be staying at home till further notice. The virus has made it up here to the Northwoods so I can not risk getting it myself nor bringing it home to my wife who has COPD. Two days ago it was confirmed in the Eagle River area and now today the Rhinelander area. The older you are the riskier it becomes.

Good plan Pete. Just not worth going into work that's for sure. 3 cases on Wednesday is now 16 here so I'll bet you have way more as well. They closed the road in today at 730. No one in except delivery's,you live here or you work in a needed business

Good decision Pete!    You can work on some of your projects now.

My wife & I have been sewing re-usuable cloth face masks for the ER. These have a pocket for the N95 filter to fit inside. Makes the N95 last longer.

Sewing is a new skill set for me - my wife is the QC person & pointing out areas of improvement opportunity . . .

I went to the HD yesterday which is now against my morals since they only staff 1 cash register. I couldn’t believe the number of people there. We were all a bunch of idiots. I was skeeved out.

Todd,
The Depot's are supposedly kept open to provide cleaning/sanitation supplies and items needed for repair. Yes, up here, we got real busy after the closures of most businesses. Sadly, the customers coming in were not purchasing cleaning/sanitation supplies or repair items. Most of the purchases were for "home improvement" and even sadder most customers were coming up from the big cities. They were "escaping" the virus, coming up to second/vacation homes and BRINGING the virus with them! Now it's up here in an area were the health infrastructure isn't the best.

Same problem here Pete. Only two roads in so they have checkpoints. No one in unless you can prove you live here, Hurricane sticker, utility bill, tax bill etc. Well the Miami neighbors started showing up last night, first clue was the loud music. If these people had to hide like Anne Frank they wouldn’t last 2 minutes They will probably head back Sunday taking all the store supplies with them.

Yeah, I’m one of the big cities guys escaping to my “vacation house”. In my defense I work secluded and my wife’s been secluded for 2 1/2weeks? And nobody is as aware of the germs as we are because my son’s illness.

Pete, you were one of those big city folk not too long ago and you better believe you would have thought about coming up north! Come on! Short term memory. Our place is summer-only, no heat or insulation, but I guarantee we will want to come up there in warmer weather as long as everyone feels OK.

Joel,
Short or long term memory aside, yes, you are correct that if I still lived in Il. I would have thought really hard about heading north.

Regarding the summer season homes like yours, the propane trucks are going nuts trying to keep the tanks full!

And here I was complaining about the 30 mph winds and 60 degrees today.....

The virus cases in this neck of the woods are growing as well, enough that it's already shut down 3 of our future projects until further notice. One of which I'm happy about because it was in a bank/ office building. - they'd been staying open to service account holders and clients. The other two were new buildings so the threat would have been minimal.
It's times like these that I might wish I was old enough for retirement

Pete, good call. My partner works for Lowe’s and they have offered a stay at home for 28 days package for any employee with an underlying Medical condition.. he is in the high risk category. Glad our house is now stay at home safe. I am wanting to go to the camp in ME. But, I’m listening to what the states of New England are saying and I’m staying home. With that said, walking the dogs I’m seeing license plates from New York and New Jersey starting to show up in my neighborhood. If this happened in late April or May I’d be relocated to Maine and got internet service. I hope everyone is safe and taking the necessary precautions

We went to the lake house Friday night and stayed until heading back home late last night. In our case it's only 35 minutes away, same state. No contact with anyone at any time in the trip and while there. Ice is completely out and my wife and I went kayaking, really peaceful and quiet, around 50 degrees and light breeze with overcast.

Pete, how about some how-to videos?

I'm still working every day, our business is part of the essential services list, but minimal contact with people.

Any place that thinks they don't have cases nearby has simply not tested enough to know that for sure.

Hang in there Pete. As you know in my profession "social distancing" is quite impossible if I'm doing my job. As a 60+ guy this makes it pretty risky to earn a living. Most people don't realize the dental profession as a whole may change forever, or until they invent a prevention or a cure.

Gregg,
Yes, you sure are in a very difficult situation. I was in shock when my dentist emailed saying he was still operating with some provisions. No routine work and only the patient can enter the building. I'm hoping the one tooth that's feeling a little different will hold out so I don't have to take the chance of going in.

Hang in there Pete and keep your lungs original. COVID mods are not cool.

I am resigned that with my part-time firefighter gig I am not likely to escape COVID, but I am following best practices and hoping for a vaccine soon.

I hope all this COVID 19 threat knocks some sense into all of those very young Mothers who have been refusing to allow their children to be vaccinated.
Long before Covid 19 we were threatened by Measles, Chicken Pox, Polio and more that can be avoided with vaccinations today.   I can't wait till we can get a vaccination for the Covid virus. I want to be first in line.   We will have 90 degree weather in the next week and I looked at my boat and it will need to sit a little longer.

Hope you all stay healthy.
