The pole here Ken is to see if we should move because of certain reasons.
1. was because of parking
2. because the local police were giving us some crap because of have a great time I guess.

Anyway, Deacon Mills is a beautiful park where we all gathered, had the band shell, was close to the pub, ramp, docks and some hotels.. Killer sunset also.. If the event is any larger than it was this year, it seems enevitable, especially if we want to bring boats in on trailers for viewing..

So with this knowledge, and the pics on the screensaver, it would make avote a lot easier.. There are several other places to go.. This is not a problem !!

I wasn't aware there were problems with the authorities. Considering next year will be most likely bigger, a move is necessary. A band shell probably won't be necessary either.

The one thing I liked about Deacon was the outsider foot traffic.

Deacon seemed too small. However, if we move, it would be great to still have a boat ramp, lake access, etc. Mojo...is that possible elsewhere?

The location of Deacon was really cool. Plenty of docking space- I was surprised with that. It's too neat of a place to not have some sort of gathering there- we just can't bring the boats on trailers. We could probably get quite a few boats on those piers though, even double parked. Let's not ditch the location for a gathering- let's just ditch the idea of having an "out of water" boat show there. No trailers, just peeps.

Yes, here's the trade off... Moving the parks means no foot traffic. We could use the County Park beach site, where there is a very nice and large shelter for the food prep, beach for the kids, and abundant parking.. The problem in my eyes is that it's on the other side of the lake to the South and is cut off from town by 7 miles. So are all the public ramp areas other that at the GL Marina/Deacon Mills park... These sites just have a lot of area to roam and park cars and trailers..

Quinner must really have liked Deacon if he's the only one that voted in the old thread AND someone swiped his chair, he should get 2 votes for this. We can pack that whole dock area in between with Nautiques.

Anyone have a solid pontoon trailer that can haul a 24 footer?

He just liked the presents he got left on his boat each night at the hotel across the street... Yikes!!!

We can't ditch Deacon. You couldn't ask for a better spot except for the trailer parking. There's even a little general/liquor store right there. Forget the trailers and we're in good shape. Let's just saturate those docks with CCs.

It seems like if there was a so called shuttle back and forth for a parking area for the trailers with plenty of parking for them than that might solve some of the issues. Out of the water parking lot show isn't why I go to start with and if it turns into that then I pesonelly won't be making the long drive to be there.

Chris, dude.... Never gonna happen.... Also, I had parking set up in a lot one block away, for plenty of cars.. I just didn't communicate it well to everyone.. The main park does offer everything we need as long as there are no cars/trailers etc pull into it.. I have secure places near my house for dozens of boats/trailers..

The boats will be wet the whole weekend !!..

Dave sounds like there's not really an issue if you can secure that lot a block away then there should be plenty of space to dunk the boats in the water then take the tow vehicles and trailers to that lot, just need to work on the communication and directions issue then.

Keep it at the park, but like stated above, forget the out of water boat show, or just let people wander around the parking lot a block away. I dig the idea of filling the pier spots and like Joel stated double or triple docking these beasts.

Only negative, band had to pack up early. Could we get a petition or permit to have them play until midnight? BRING BACK TEACHERZ PET, nothing like live music.

I thought Deacon was a great spot, everything was right there including the hotel filled with women, bra-less and pantie-less I might add. We could try and take over that hotel across the street where we stayed perhaps. I would launch and park back at the hotel lot-no problem.
What about setting up a time Friday at one of those bigger parks, say from 2-4pm, for the "Trailer Queen Session", from there head to the launch and cruise the lake as a group, it was fun seeing the boats on the trailers, having a couple beers and just hanging out Friday afternoon before we hit the water.

Oh yea, and Hollywood, let us not forget the Sweet Little Naughties found in the park Sat Night!

The only thing I have against the band idea is that not only does it draw unwanted attention (Johnny Law) but people feel an obligation to watch the band and chat less- if you bring your own tunes, I think it's less of a distraction.

Then you have people bitching about who should play what music, more than one song being heard at one time.

rock out with your caulk out

Joel, the vote was actually whether we brought a DJ type guy in instead of a band. We can't have 20 different boom boxes going at the same time either..

The issues with the band is that it was blaz'n hot out there and the one guy I believe got sick.. Then Paul spent two nights not enjoying everyone elses conversations (as the drummer). and lastly a few of us spent a lot of our time helping to breakdown and move the equipment.. It was a lot of work for those guys to set up, especially in the heat and humidity, for only a few hours of enjoyment.. I wouldn't do it if I were them again!!. There is no way that town would allow a rock band in that park past 10:00pm. I think it would be cool for the younger mindset also to here some of their music and enjoy as well as us old rockers.. Anyway, there's my 2 cents. I know of a couple of kids that have enough equipment to put on a nice showing for all..

Ok, ok, easy...

I thought I saw "bring your own tunes" somewhere. What I meant was, I don't think we should worry about having any formal provision of music (or food, for that matter) at the event. I think the raffle and boat contest along with T-shirts, venue planning, etc. is enough for the planning crew to worry about without food and music as well, just trying to help. My .02.

No problem Joel keep coming with the suggestions. Keith added the "spin your own tunes" catagory, which added a third choice to my original questionaire. We certainly want everyone to have as great of a time that we had this year. I just wanted to really know if a band or DJ was prefered, so we can plan accordingly if so desired. I woundn't have asked if we were just going to have a CD player burn'n..

Thanks

Question:
What is there was a place where Barney Fife wouldn't be an issue, the band could play a little later on Sat night, plenty of parking, fire pit, grills, no liquor issues etc (it would just be off the water and away from downtown a few blocks) ??? Just a thought as a back up plan if Deacon Mills is unavailable or deemed to small... We will need to make a decision on location before the end of the year, so we can submit to the town our applications.. If we think parking is an issue of that Johnny-law is going to be a problem because Quinner and Brownie are going to wear bra's on their heads in the park again LMAO.. we may need to consider plan B..

What do you think??

Were the only issues with Barney the parking and noise?

Parking, banner placement, cars in the park.. Not really for noise(the Chamber approved the band as long as they stopped by 10:00) Let's just say they were closely monitoring our group's activities.. If 07' looks to be as large of a turnout as expected, we'll have to take the location into consideration that's all..

Exactly,
We have an empty lot near us, and a neighbor with two empty, side by side lots behind us...
Just a thought to keep the gathering in town, but give us more room...

I thought your place was half way down the lake? would there be water access/pier to tie up to as well?

Well, it's about a 1/2 mile down the Eastern side, but no it's completely land locked.. More I think about it, it's a bad idea, and there's no "facilities"..

Back to the park ideas...

Park was great cause we can pack the boats in, ramp there too. Park down the road at Moj's this time and walk back.

If there is no band playing you can actually use the whole lawn area. I think Deacon is big enough w/o a band on stage.

A man who is driving a car is stopped by a police officer.

The Officer: "You were going at least 75 in a 55 zone."
Man: "No sir, I was going 60."
Wife: "Oh, Harry. You were going 80."

Officer: "I'm also going to give you a ticket for your broken tail light."
Man: "Broken tail light? I didn't know about a broken tail light!"
Wife: "Oh Harry, you've known about that tail light for weeks."

Officer: "I'm also going to give you a citation for not wearing your seat belt."
Man: "Oh, I just took it off when you were walking up to the car."
Wife: "Oh, Harry, you never wear your seat belt."

Man turns to his wife and yells: "Shut your damn mouth!"
Officer turns to the woman and asks, "Ma'am, does your husband talk to you this way all the time?"
Wife: "No, only when he's drunk."
