Hi Everyone,
I had an electrical problem yesterday in my '85 SN2001. Whenever I turned any of the dash switches on(bilge pump, lights, radio, etc.), all the gauges would peg. I found that I had a bad ground to the dash. I ran a new ground from the battery to the dash which fixed the problem, along with the low voltage that my voltmeter always registered. My warning systems hardly makes a sound now.
The problem I have now is that the tach reads about 600 rpms lower than actual. I think it may be fried from the original problem. I hooked my digital multi-meter up to the terminals on the back of the tach and it registered the correct rpms, so I assume the wiring is alright. The jumper wire on the back of the tach is set for 8 cylinders. Am I missing anything? If its fried, any suggestions on a replacement? I'd like to keep it as original as possible. It has Teleflex black with white and blue markings.

Sounds like you have checked everything. If I understand your post the reading going into the tach from the sending unit is correct. The tach is set for 8 cylinders. I believe you have isolated the problem at the tach. You seem to have pretty good knowledge of electronics.
There is a section on the site where you can list parts wanted and view parts for sale. Lots of stuff ends up on Ebay as well.
Lots of smart guys on the site that may have a solution to the problem. Good luck.

i'm pretty sure your teleflex gauges are from the teleflex "vector" line. still manufactured - check about any teleflex dealer -very standard i know overtons, boaters world both carry that series
