Buttercup - My wife's boat. She fell in love with this boat since the first time she laid eyes on it about 15 years ago, but someone else owned it. After years of harassment he finally gave in to her persuasion.
The Mustang had been torn down and in pieces for over 10 years in his garage. But as my wife stated the last time she talked to him we love puzzles. He called us the last of November and we went to pick the boat up the first of December. Since this was a 'Christmas present.' I went to work on it right away on getting it ready for winter boating in Florida.
The previous owner had started the restoration, taking of the hardware, windshield, step pads, etc., also stripping off layers of paint. Unfortunately in the process gouging the gel coat. As I went I realized she had been hit on the side at one time in her life. Nothing more than some fiberglass can fit. Before we headed south with the boat I got the fiberglass problems fix and the first coat of primer.
Once in Florida we were able to work on the boat and put the final coat of primer, two coats of 'Buttercup' yellow on the sides and three coats of top coat paint. Worked out a few issues with the motor since it has not ran in ten years, put it all back together. Then came to launch day. The engine ran great except for a small heating problem but it is scheduled for a rebuild this summer.
We also have a 1974 Southwind and a 1951 Jr Deluxe.
