This boat has been in the family since I can remember. My dad was the second owner, and we spent quite a bit of time in it when I was a little kid. Yes, it looks like the ‘Bat Boat’ from the old campy Batman series on TV. Unfortunately, after moving to a new house without storage space, the boat sat and deteriorated at my grandmother’s house.

After ten years or so of rotting, I bought a new trailer to replace the rusted out original Correct Craft trailer and dragged the boat to Southeast Correct Craft in Orlando, FL where Woody and his guys worked on the boat over a couple years to virtually renew the boat. The original Holman & Moody 351 was a rusted wreck, so they dropped in a late model Pleasure Craft Maine base motor with the same 260HP. New stringers were fiber glassed in, a new custom gas tank was installed, the floors were replaced, and then the interior was redone in vinyl matching the original color. I had them put in modern white faced CC gages to give a little resto rod look to it. The interior is just incredible.

Back in the old days with the H&M engine, the boat would go an indicated 63mph @ 6300 RPM’s turning a 12” dia. X R18” pitch Federal prop. I don’t know how that engine would turn that many revs, but man was it fast. After the renewal, the PCM 351 would bury the 50mph CC speedo turning about 4700RPM. I had to replace the Federal with an OJ 12XR19 but lost some speed as the boat will only do 50mph at the valve float limit of 4800RPMs. I believe with a Federal 12XR21 the boat will do 55mph. Also, the engine seems to run a bit rich, and I know some carb tuning will improve speed further.

This new engine combo is heavier than the old H&M due to the high rise cast iron exhaust manifolds on the PCM engine versus the H&M’s aluminum manifolds. The rear sits a little lower, and when coming off plane you got to ease off gently to prevent the wake from washing over the stern. I would love to replace the steel intake with an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake and the exhaust manifolds with aluminum manifolds. Not only would this reduce weight, but also add horsepower.

I don’t have the time run the boat much and would like to find her a new home with someone who will respect the history of this boat and maintain it. The boat has 33 hours on the motor and was redone back in early 2000. Interior is about perfect. Gel coat has some scratches, but still looks outstanding for a 32 year old boat.
