The stringers wood or composite will be very close in location and inbetween those stringers in front of the seat you would likely find wet foam or rotted wood over wet foam.

Care cutting to locate the stringers, dig out the rotted wood stiffener (like in the 79 pic) scoop out the foam and refill and glass to extend the boats life could be accomplished.

    Author: davejr
Subject: Vintage American Skier Left-hand drive
Posted: April-15-2026 at 12:09pm

Hello all! New here and was just looking for some advice/information. I have a 1964 American Skier that is left hand drive with a 327 Chevy small block in it. I was gifted it back in 2018 from my in-laws and got it up and running. They owned it for about 30yrs and it was out of the water from 2008-2018. So, I am reaching out to this community to see if anyone knows the value of it. The 2 main wood supports that support the engine are pretty rotted out up front and will need to be replaced. I've searched the internet all over and have asked AI if there are any listings of sales or anything at all for the left-hand drive and have come up empty. It was even hard to find that these actually existed. To my knowledge they were a special-order boat that Correct Craft made and it was basically just the hull and now power plant. They did this for people that wanted to run larger HP engines in them and all that were available were car engines (hence the small block chevy 327 in it). Why they made it left-hand drive was because the car engines spun backwards compared to marine engines, so to compensate for the torque of the engine they moved the wheel to the left-hand side for weight and twisting force of the engine. We are shopping for a newer Nautique, Mastercraft, Moomba, or Axis for its replacement and I am debating whether to restore this boat in the future or possibly unload it. Has anyone on here ever seen one or possibly know the value of it. Could this possibly be the last one out there? Haha Thank you all!

The ICS (integrated composite stringer) system was introduced in ‘93, and uses very different materials and construction techniques. Wayoutthere's pictures have been extremely insightful (not many composite boats have been torn apart) but unfortunately, not very helpful for understanding a pre-composite boat.
