I have been reading a lot about hull blisters and since I leave my boat in the river (brakish water)for 6-8 weeks at a time over the summer was worried. This fall I pulled it out and cleaned and waxed it in preperation for winter storage. In one isolated area (near rear spray pocket) there appears to be old repair (5"x10") after a couple seasons it has yellowed slightly and can be seen in certain light I noticed a single open blister (size of fingernail) and a few pimples. Given it is minor and only cosmetic should I just epoxy open blister or could a failing repair jepardize the rest of the hull?

If you wish to repair some minor blistering, and it later fails, it will cause no more harm to the remainder of the hull but anytime a boat is left in the water, especially in brackish or salt water, osmotic blistering may occur unless the bottom has a barrier coating on it. Of course if you barrier coat you would want to bottom paint it too. The solution is to leave it out of the water as much as possible. I've experimented with my river, also brackish, leaving boats in for varied amounts of time and even pulling and cleaning after one or two weeks won't prevent blistering. It seems the accumulated time in the water without completely drying is what counts, in my experience. Others may have other opinions. I hope this helps.

get a lift to store it on while it's in the water and don't wax the hull below the water line otherwise your just going to make it easier for blister to form.
