Hello, does anyone have any information good or bad on the globe drive savers? That's that urethane deal that allows slight movement in the drive flange / drive shaft assembly. It has added 1 Inch to the driveshaft length thus making it about a 1/2 inch or so from my rudder leading edge. All help appreciated.

Have you checked you alignment? I'm just wondering why you are looking at the "drive saver". Rocks in the lake? |

to me they are a double edged sword, a band-aid, if you hit rocks it doesnt save anything most likely, just the cost of everything else and another drive saver. the only time i would consider using one is for more spacing. if everything in the drive line is as it should be there is no need for this, but thats my opinion. if they were revolutionary they would be on all boats

I'm just not sure that there is an outstanding problem with CC's that the drivesaver fixes. May just be another hole in the water to throw $$ in. I have never witnessed the results. IMO, eliminate the muffler and you won't hear any of the noises "eliminated" by the drivesaver.

We've got something that looks very similar on our BFN. One of the previous owners installed it. I plan on removing it and aligning the boat instead. Ill sell it cheap if you want it!
No idea if it works, but it does cut down on prop-rudder clearance... Ive only got ~3/8" between my rudder and my Acme. |

Thanks for the input fellas, I don't at this time have a alignmnet problem. I got one of these cheap and thought it would help keep the tranny output shaft bearing(s) At the tranny flange from any weird loading( Possibly from my "old" boat creeking and moving ) I think the old girl needs stringers. Just trying to stop one problem from migrating into another. AND wanted to get a posting on the subject as there was nothing on the site.

im waiting for someone making the suggestion of incorporating a CV shaft in there. really though, whatever creates the vibration is still there and is just be masked by the "prop Saver" I really dont know the max RPM rating on those, but i sure would hate to have one blow apart at 5000

I'll admit that I put one on my Dunphy years ago. In fact, Eric I asked you about it and got a very curse answer from you!!! I put it on because when I put the new bottom on and made the new prop shaft, somehow the prop shaft was a inch too short!! I ended up with only about a 1/4" between the prop hub and the strut/cutlass. Yes I know - measure twice and cut once!! Even thought the engine/shaft/strut alignment was dead on, I also wan't to see if it would reduce any of the hull/engine harmonics. It did!
Eric, They are HP and RPM rated. Bob, I have to ask what are the blobs of silicone on the bolt heads for? Once again - I hate silicone!!! |

Paul you really have an eye. Ok so back in aircaft school I was once asked please point out the "Magnetic chip detector" on the aux power unit. I failed.... it was the magnetic drain plug for the gear case sump, OIL DRAIN PLUG...
The silicone is a non torqued detection medium. How's that for a story. |

UPDATE, Went to lake yesterday and all is well. For the record I noticed a $19.95 Plus shipping difference in the boat. (A small reduction of harmonics). NOT a $189.00 plus shipping when you would but this thing new. So I agree will all, NOT NECESSARY ADDITION.
