How hard is it to replace the old style pylon on an 87 sn domonique with a newer style one piece pylon off a 93 sn.I had to remove the ring on the old pylon to allow a skylon pole to fit over it and i lost the ring.I just traded the 87 to a guy who wanted me to replace the pylon so he can use it without the extension.Seeing as the boat is no longer mine should i bother trying to do this or is it fairly easy?

Its not a straightforward swap. The ring and finger pylons had smaller diameter pins (~1") that sat in a cup on the keel. The ball-topped pylons all stay full 2.5" diameter all the way down. Your best bet is to either find another ring (yikes) or get a replacement ball topper piece made to fit in place of the ring and finger. They were available at MWCC- try Bruce at N3Boatworks.

For what is worth, the Monkey Bar tower of sorts, by Mike Seidel, fits perfectly onto the Dominique, at least my 1988. The mounts fit into a side recess that allow easy access to bolts, and the front cable attaches to the lifting ring. It initially installs in about an hour, and comes in and out in minutes. It was a much better replacement, (and not a lot more money) than a conventional pole. It is very robust.

Hoping this is helpful

thanks, I did locate another pylon with a ring on it today,I was told that the dominique pylon is 3" longer and has a 5 deg bend just above the floor to account for the fact that the floor is 3" deeper.I did not know there was a difference between the dominique and a regular mustang and we owned it for four years.I will be pressing out the pins and replacing the ring on the original pylon seeing as the pole i located is from a regular sn not a barefoot or dominique.

shawn,

I have a ring finger from when i changed mine to the the microphone style that tim was saying that bruce at N3 boat now works for. To buy the ring they are very hard to come by so let me know if you want to buy my old ring off of me.

No not Tim, its Bruce at N3 Boatworks 317-845-9253

Bruce is the parts guru and can get you the Microphone addon for the pylon. I guess about 150 for it maybe more.

Good luck and we are here to help.
