Water coming in somewhere

I leave my boat in the water most of the time and I've noticed that the carpet on the rear port side stays soaking wet. It is only from the stern to just in front of the back seat, but I can't figure out where it's coming from. From reading on here, my guess is the speedo tubes, but I thought I would get some advice from those who have "been there, done that."

If your bilge is dry then look at your cover. The ski platform can splash up a good amount of water over time soaking the rear seats which in turn will soak the carpet. We had this problem on our '86. Simple fix, we just turned the boat around and everything dried up. Another thing is that the water may not have a place to drain out down to the bilge.

We had a speedo tube break once but that only added a lot of water in the bilge never soaked into the carpet.

The boat does sit in the water with the cover on, but the area that is wet is behind and underneath the port side of the back seat, but that could be it. I'll have to try turning the boat around. The bilge isn't filling abnormally high either. I checked rudder and shaft packing and everything is normal there. I'm pretty sure that water IS getting in while it sits because I've let it sit for a day or two to dry out, but that one spot is still soaking wet. I checked and sealed the holes where the speedo tubes go through and there wasn't much there as far as a seal goes, so I'm HOPING that was it. I'll post back once I get it back in the water and let you guys know.

Oh yeah, I tried the reverse leak test today and got nothing from the platform brackets or exhaust, so that is good I guess.

Well, unless I didn't seal it well enough that wasn't where the leak was at.

My boat is an 84. When yours was doing it through the rub rail, did it get the carpet on the side wet at all or just the carpet on the floor?

Dennis - You might want to seal the underside of the rub rail with some electrical tape (run it down the entire side) to test your theory that the rub rail is leaking. If it is, then you will have to remove it & seal the fiberglass joint with 3M 4200. I think I am going to have to do this also, have same problem.   Mine will have to wait for next year.

BTW, Rock Island is my home town. Where do you ski? Rock River, Andalusia Slough? CCF sure makes the world smaller!

Dennis - You must know Dave & Dan Hanson, they lived on the Rock. Went to school with them. They were Champ skiers.
