1996 SN...i winterized it yesterday and for the oil change
I put in straight 40W but had a ford mechanic tell me after i was done that I want NON-DETERGENT 40W... Everyone i know actually runs regular 10W-40, which has detergents...I have seen some threads about oil choices but wasnt sure so I thought I'd ask. Anyone see any problems here? |

IMO your mechanic is wrong. Non-detergent oil is only needed on old engines full of sludge.
You are good to go. Did you use Rotella 40W? |

No name, What does this mechanic work on? Certainly not internal combustion engines! Listen to Chris and Eric. You want the detergent. Even more important is the oil should have a high level of ZDDP for your flat tappet engine. Chris mentioned Rotella 40 which is a good choice. |

Hey Pete - my name should be in my profile...see it?
The mechanic isnt MINE but he got me thinking enough to ask...thanks for the help, glad to know i had it right. I saw everyone else's choices of Rotella and 20w-50 racing that Tim uses, but i just grabbed the NAPA 40w....with detergent. Hope you all had a good summer... |
