Prop clearance to strut - is this too close

After I got everything back together with new 6A6 strut (longer than the 6A)and the new Acme installed which went on the taper deeper than the old Federal prop this is the clearance that resulted. Is it safe to run this close to the strut - nothing hits and there is 1" clearance b/w prop and hull and 2" clearance b/w prop and rudder. THANKS

cant get a puller behind it, but yes it appears to close, at times I have made solid spacers to use between the coupling halves, not prop savers, the stack up is the same but, its too bad you couldnt clip an inch or so off of the strut

If I uncouple the shaft from transmission I can get enough clearance to pull the prop in the event I need to - what damage could result from the strut to back of prop being this close? I guess I could always pull the coupler and take a saw to the strut and cut off some of it - what is the minimum recommended distance that most folks agree is acceptable?

I too feel it's too close. My worry is the danger of not getting enough water through the cutlass bearing to lubricate it. It doesn't take much flow but still I'm concerned.

The norm between the strut and prop is roughly 1 prop shaft diameter.

Is a hacksaw/sawzal recommended for cutting the strut?

I dont see why not. Just clean up after you make your cut with a grinder and/or file. All of the 6A6's extra (1") length vs. the regular 6A is in the rear. Cutting it off and cleaning up the casting would make it closer to original.

That should be plenty. Performance wise, the closer the prop is to the strut, the better. Id probably shoot for 1/2 to 3/4" of clearance. That should give you plenty of room to get a puller on and alleviate any danger of running the cutlass dry.

Thanks for the input and more expertise than I have on the subject I never thought about proper clearance for water flow to give coolant on bearing. I was looking at the strut and it looks like only about 3/4" is realistic otherwise I start getting into the vertical stem of the strut as it returns onto the strut log. Thanks again to all for the direction I will get to the cutting as soon as I have a chance to uncouple and pull the shaft out the hard way again
