I have a 1999 Ski Nautique Open Bow with about 340 hours on the Pro Boss 310 HP engine. I have grown up around Nautiques and have been in several the last few months and know how quiet they run. I think the engine on my boat is too loud when riding in the boat. What is the standard decibel for a 1999 Nautique? I am looking for any way to make it quieter. Could the muffler be going bad? Anybody else come across something like this? Thanks in advance for the help.

No idea on decibel readings. Some people line the inside of the motor box with insulation and claim it helps a ton. I believe Overtons does or used to sell the insulation kit for this purpose. The insulation is reinforced foil faced.
Mufflers, being all fiberglass usually last a long time...certainly since '99. Have you check to make sure something on the engine such as an accessory (alternator, water pump(s)) are not the cause of the excessive noise? Is the exhaust manifold leaking at the head(s)? |

David,
Thanks for the reply. I will look into your ideas. Unfortunately, I have been out of town for a while, but I should be able to get back to it now. |

and often interior noise can come from engine misalignment.
