Anyone know the size of the input shaft is on a 78 nautique transmission? I want to order a speedy sleeve before I pull the trans out. It want stop leaking and I'm tired of having seals put in it. Oh and can someone give the part number for the seal and the best place to buy the speedy sleeve?

Yes, Eric has mentioned it many times, that the seal really doesn't see any pressure if the pump is good. Time for a rebuild???

u can push the seal in an 1/8 farther if the shaft is pitted, i thought the shaft was 1.375   cant remember, but i get the speedi sleeves thru Car Quest

Just had it rebuilt this winter. I tried pushing the seal in a little further but it starts leaking again after about 30 min of running. This is the third seal and I'm tired of pulling the trans out. I guess I'll have to pull it out and mic the shaft just thought I could skip a step if someone knew the shaft size and part # for the seal.

I have to ask if you went for the $400 rebuild? What did he do to the pump? What did he do - a clutch pack?

New clutches and seals and someting else I can't remebet what he said. The pump was ok according to him. Cost $500.

Bruce,
The clutch pack is the easy one to replace. Almost anyone can do that and this has been proven by some of our members who have been successful. It's when it comes down to the pump when things get more involved and experience like Eric's comes to play. If ALL pump/housing tolerances are not in spec and a couple O rings inside the pump aren't addressed, that's when problems come up. The pump will by pass oil around to it's front side creating pressure where there souldn't be any and push the seal out and or blow oil past it.

rebuilt also includes re-seal,
picked one up last night Pete, sold the guy a few hundred in parts last year, typical hammer beaton cylinder, all the typical garage rebuild scenario. I would bet when i crack it apart this morning one of the snap rings will be missing...and the obvious, more damage then when he started

Yes he does warranty his work but the shaft is pitted. He told me up front it my leak. I just thought someone on here could save me some time and give me the shaft size and seal part number so I could do it all in one day.
Why is it so hard to believe that for $500 you can't get a good job done. He's been building transmissions for 30 yrs and he always give us nautique people a break.
