I have a 71 Skier and the drivers side exhaust manifold riser has a dime size hole on the under side near flange. It has what I think to be log style exhaust manifolds (from what I have found on the web) with the riser coming of the back. I have searched and been told these are no longer available. I put up a post on the wanted parts page for a used or new set, but thought I would see if anyone has had any success patching?? And if so what do you recommend?? Don't really want to buy new manifolds and risers plus have to change to longer hoses since I just replaced the hoses.

Could the hole be from a rotted out drain plug that's rusted larger through the years? How much good metal is left around the hole? Grind it back at a patch can be brazed in (with a threaded hole if it was a drain). If you're not familiar with brazing, you can take it to a welding shop. The manifold will need plenty of pre heating and then crossing your fingers!!. Welcome to CCfan. How about some pictures? Stringers good? |

I thought that it may have been a drain plug that rotted out, but looked at the other side and no plug in that location. The area around the hole is very thin around 1/8". I thought about drilling and tapping and putting in a plug, but not enough metal to get more than a thread or two. I read about the brazing, but not sure there is enough meet left for that.. Stringers are good from what I can tell. All engine mounts torque down and drilled a few small holes with dry wood pulled out. Thanks been reading here for awhile, but just joined. I will get some pics up when I figure out how. Found the Skier on this site. Gary |

This is the hole in my exhaust riser.. Also if anyone can tell me what kind it is and where one or a pair can be found. I posted a couple other pictures of it at different angles in the parts wanted forum.

Gary,
I'd take that to the welding shop. They'll need to cut the hole back to good metal. Ask them about using stainless for the patch. It looks like a weak spot in the casting that burns through from the exhaust gas. Also, better check the other side too. If you don't have any luck at your local weld shop, these guys can weld/repair almost anything. Crow Custon Cast |

I am going to take it down to the local welding shop in the morning and hope they can fix her up. I cant seem to find out anything about the manifolds or risers.
