The guy I bought my Fish Nautique from told me he was rebuilding his starter every two months, he had it rebuilt when I bought the boat. When the starter failed I knew there was a bigger issue. After removing the starter I felt teeth on the ring gear and two sections of teeth were completely gone! The guys at TRS starters were kind enough to repair the starter as warantee work. I need to replace the ring gear on the flywheel and need some guidance removeing the transmission correctly. While I have the transmission out I want to have it checked and serviced. I live in Lake Mary(Orlando) FL and would like to find help locally. Any direction on the removal of my transmission and a possible shop or tech for service is crucial. My transmissions ratio is 1.258,reverse rotation. I have looked for schematics on it but cannot find them. Help the newbie.

Loose the shaft coupler and water hoses from the oil cooler as well as the starter. loose the transmision mounts from the hull.
Put some wood blocks under the engine and take out the whole bellhousing /transmission assembly. |

This sounds pretty involved, I would like to do as much as I can without making more work for myself. Do the transmission and the motor share mounts or do they each have their own? The block of wood under the motor, is that to support the motor where the transmission would have, prior to removal? I called Woody and left a message, do you guys recommend him for transmission service? If so, that could not have worked out better for me, we both have same zip code. Thank you for you the directions and sharing your knowledge.

There's some good transmission removal info in Kapla's My Tranny is Toast thread.
Bear in mind, that his situation was complicated by the fact that he couldn't easily ship his transmission to Eric for rebuild, given that Kap is Argentina. It sounds like Woody lives in your backyard, so that changes your situation as well. |
