Forum, I am getting to the assembly stage of my rebuild and would like to test my speedos prior to installing the fuel cell. Is there a simple test to perform such as 5PSI = 20MPH (made up numbers) ? What is a failure symptom of the aluminum tubes vs actual gauge?

Should have Googled first.. my bad. 30psi= 50mph and I just found out that the equalizers tubes aren't needed and are recommended for removal. Do you agree?

It depends on the age of the gauge. I'd leave them in on older gauges. (roughly pre mid 80's) |

These are 1978 Pete. I am lead to understand they slow the action of the speedometer. I ride in areas with rather short runs.

I'd leave them in. They where designed to slow down the gauge needle movement so they aren't bouncing all over the place but also, the dampening is easier on the gauge internals.

Just make sure they don't leak I found a small crack in one of mine (leaked like a sieve)
After repair I put hose on each end dropped it in a bucket and pressure tested. |
