So I need to remove the windshield off my 1979 Ski Tique for my deck repair.

Before I just start hacking at it...anybody removed one and has a quick how to tip for pulling it the right way. Can I get replacment rubbers for the window channels?? Maybe from a local glass shop.

Thanks all. This site rocks.

Tyler,
I took the windshield off of my 83. Not sure if your 79 is similar but there is a flat piece of plastic trim at the base of the windshield. You will need something flat like a putty knife to slip in behind or under it to pry it off. Be careful. It will be fragile. Once you have it off, you will see the screws holding the windshield frame to the boat. Not sure on the rubber for the channels. Mine was still in good shape.

Sounds like the '83 is more like the later windshields than the earlier ones.

A '79 will have t-bolts holding the windshield down. You can get to the nuts on the underside of the deck. Once the nuts are removed, the windshield will lift right up.

The stuff holding the glass into the frame is called channel glazing, and it is VERY hard to find in black, and the right size. Its a U shapped channel of rubber that has 2 rubber lips that overlap the top edge of the windsheild frame, and 3 row of rubber barbs that center and hold it tight to the inside of the frame. My 87's glazing measures .5" deep from the bottom of the rubber lips to the bottom of the channel, and the whole thing measures .605" wide, and its made to hold 3 ply glass. My original glass mic'ed in between .19" and .21" thick, and i beleive they call that 3 ply glass. I had the shop that made my new laminated front glass peices look around and they could not find any. Don't know how hard they looked, but they should know whats out there. You may be able to find it in gray vinyl, but black is tough. My new glass is 1/4" laminated, and it still fits into the old glazing, but it is tight.

I will cut away the foam and find the bolts. I just didn't want to hack at the foam if I didn't need to. Off she comes this weekend !!

Any update? I'm interested in pictures from the underside of the deck.

My windshield is rattling and I suspect some things need to be tightened.... And I've been wondering how to remove the windshield too!
