I tried to post this four days ago, but we all know that the site had to deal with some problems...
 This was what I wanted to post on last wednesday: "Sooooo, it was about time something failed on my boat... Four years of intense boating without any problems is not normal!  My right speedo is leaking water. From what I gathered on the internet and over here, I suspect the "diaphram" is busted, which causes water to creep up the hose and leak into the speedo. I don't even know what that "diaphram" looks like  Anyone got a picture of that thingy? So I took my speedo out last night and it's lying on my kitchen table now. I will take it apart when I get back from work. My questions are: - can this be fixed? (Sorry Dean but I don't have the money at the moment for a conversion to GPS). I read on the net it is doable but not easy... - are the internals of the MPH version the same as those of the KPH version? If so, has anyone a cheap Airguide for sale? It doesn't have to look good, just the internals have to work properly  Djeez... and just now that speedo looked so shiny with the new lens I got from Dean...  Thanks in advance for any info, Kristof" In the mean time, I took the speedo apart and found this:  What I think is the diaphram had a crack in it. So I made a fix with stuff called "Tec7", which is an absolute great product that fixes a lot of problems over here in Belgium  Put everything back togetherbut alas... My fix didn't work. So now, my speedo is yet again on my kitchen table, taken apart... Can anybody help me? |

Kristof,
The recommended fix is silver soldering the bellows. I recall there are several members who have done this fix. "Tec7" over here is called JB weld! To tell you the truth, the stuff is a joke!! Back yard hack repair all the way!

tec 7 is a polymer based sealant. pretty good stuff!

I went to the Tec 7 web site. Not much on the details but it sounds like a moisture cure polyurethane to me which makes it equal to 3M 5200 or one of the Sika polys. I still wound not use it for the crack in the bellows. The silver solder is the way to go. |

TEC7 is pretty good stuff you know. An example: when I was still helping out my cousin, who worked in construction, on fridays, we had to make a storage room next to a painting booth in a body shop. We were not allowed to drill holes or screws into the painting booth metal wall. We just glued the beam to that wall with TEC7. All the cross beams rested on that particular glued beam. To test the strenght, they put two cars on the top floor and left them there for a week... Didn't budge. As for my speedo, I will take it to my buddy, who's a master in soldering. |

Got it fixed!
First I reconnected the dismantled speedo and went for a ride to see where exactly it was leaking water. It was indeed the diaphram, but not where I suspected it was. When I found the leak, I took it to my buddy Jo and soldered it. Okay, it doesn't look like professional work, but the leak is fixed! And once mounted back together, you don't see it   |
