    Posted: July-10-2013 at 4:01pm
I recently bought a '92 Nautique excel v-drive boat with a PCM 351 engine in it. I'm working on cleaning it up and getting it in good running shape but was wondering if anybody knows the proper impeller and fuel filter that is needed for this boat??

Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a new boat owner myself but my parents have had boats and I've grown up around the my whole life, it's a whole different story when you have to do everything on your own though!!

Congratulations on the purchase.

The impeller should be this one at SkiDim. You can get it at a few other places. Check out my parts list (was written for my 1984 PCM) here.

As for other tips, let's see some pics and we'll tell you the items you should be looking at. Also let us know your budget and/or goal. Are you looking for some performance improvements (IE new prop) or just trying to get out on the water ASAP?

Check SkiDim or the other retailers in my spreadsheet for the fuel filter. I don't think the 92 is the same as the 84 in my spreadsheet.

For your next impeller I would go with a Glob Stop run dry impeller. They are a silicone impeller and last for years. I replaced the one in My supra that was over 17 years old just because. I now keep it as a spare for me or anyone else I help. They are great, only $30 and last much longer than the rubber one which only go 2 seasons...

Are they really that good and will that fit my '92 351 proboss? I just changed mine, but that will be what I get next year.

Thanks!! I already got a new 4 blade acme prop and it came with a great tower! I will get some pictures up but right now I'm more concerned about making sure it's running good before adding any more performance parts to it. I'm just excited to have it! Our old boat was an '89 supra so this is a bit of a change

Yes, they are that good! Let see, bought mine in 95. Back in 2006 I accidentally shut the hose off run running it in the driveway for about a min then realized it was off! Opened the pump after not checking on it since 95 and it was like new! But last summer I opened it up and decided to replace it. Its sitting in my glove box as a spare. It sat for 2 years unused in Comp (10-12, when I got the CC) and the splines are slowly straightening out. But last summer I bought 4 Impellers, My 2 boats, friends boat, and relatives boat. They all work great and prime quick. $30 a piece and out last the rubber ones by far.

Where I buy them, Hamilton Marine:

Hamilton Marine Globe 620

E-Bay Globe 620

Amazon Globe 620 Free Shipping!

Hamilton Marine, and E-Bay don't have free shipping. I found them on Hamilton Marine first so thats where i ordered. If I ever order more, Amazon is the way!

EDIT: Forgot to add! They are made in USA!!! Even more reason to buy!

So what's the best way to figure out which impeller is best for my motor? I think I am going to order up one of these bad boys for a spare.

And that's a problem why? Seems like quite the deal considering traditional petroleum based rubber ones are even more expensive.

Hey JPASS he silver spoon fed the right impeller for you. All you gotta do is click the link...

Wasn't sure that was specifically for my boat.

You gotta do a little homework. Don't worry about what the sticker says on the side of the boat. Same PCM engine, and more importantly same Sherwood raw water pump.

Or you could always measure they gave the dimensions.

We used to have an '89 23 foot closed bow pirata. It was definitely a great boat with a lot of pull!!! Also, any idea what fuel filter for the '92 excel? I don't want to yank the old one out until I get a new one...

Heading to Tennessee with the new boat at the end of next week so looking forward to some calm water and getting it running!!

My 92 Excel had the standard Ford 351w Filter - Fram PH8A (I believe)....not that I EVER used it.....

From there you can cross -reference.

All of those links are to Globe #620 Impeller for Sherwood G21 Water Pumps.

Sorry if I make it sound a little too good to be true but; They are great impellers that people just don't know of! OUt of all the boaters I know Im the only one who has come across these impellers. I think they are a great alternative to the Rubber ones that 2 maybe 3 years tops.

Those impellers have come and gone over the years,I believe the previous incarnation was called Barco, they disappeared when they had problems. I now always use the brand of impeller that makes the pump,I cannot afford to ruin this pump, there are no direct replacements for mine. I had a Barco impeller at one time they seem to wear quickly when run on a direct drive pump. I have also seen non oem impellers not work in pumps, soon as an oem one was installed it worked. Just ask Marty it cost him the whole day at one of the river runs

2 or 3 seasons (3-400hrs) is about what I get out of the stands dare impelar. I don't wait until the blades fall of to change them, just when I fell like messing with it. It cost a lot more than an impelar if you use that run dry feature much.
