We upgraded my 1995 super sport gt-40 with a 100 amp alternator kit from ski dim. I installed it Sunday evening and now the boat wont start. If followed the instructions to a tee, and i know i did nothing wrong. The boat is not getting fuel for some reason. I've downloaded the GT-40 manual on this website and we have gone through all the steps as far as diagnosing and whatnot. It seems everything checks out when testing each individual component, but when they all come together, its a mess.
Boat wont cycle fuel pumps for 2 secs when key is switched on. When we run a testlight on the wire at the relay it lights up for 2 secs and then shuts off like it should. When we run the diag connector to ground the fuel pumps run fine. we have tested the grounds to the ECM, they are fine. I'm looking for a complete wiring schematic of the engine ,i have some schematics of individual things, but would like to try and find a complete one if it exist. The super sport has never given us any trouble in the past five years until now. I thought about taking the new alternator off and putting the old one back on, but knowing what i know , i cant see how it impacts anything with the fuel system. If you guys have any ideas, im open to them, i have checked the shut off lanyard switch, its fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated, need to get back on the water, the kids are getting fussy Thanks |

We have tested the ECM realy and fuel pump relay, they test fine. When the key is turned on, there is a noise coming from the fuel pump relay, almost like a humming noise, like its trying to do close the circuit but cant

Here is a good write up to check your fuel pump operation. Good luck. Just work through the diagrams/thread and you should figure it out.

Knowing very little about GT40's, it sure sounds like you have an electrical connection issue. Either the relay harness or ground would be my guess.

If you look at this traditional wiring schematic (and I'd think the GT-40 isn't all that different as far as this goes), the alternator wiring does include constant hot, ignition switched and ground wiring.
Any mistakes or problems here, and you have the opportunity to short the constant hot positive or ignition straight to ground. Which I'm thinking is maybe what's happening. It's hard to interpret that kit just from looking at DIM's picture. Why is there extra wiring? I'm assuming it's not quite plug and play. Does it create a quick connect plug on the alternator side? |

The GT40 manual in the reference section is your best friend.

I found a copy of the 100 amp alternator kit installation instructions on that other site:

Is there a fuseable link between the alt and the starter?

Guys I would like to update this issue
We had diagnosed everything we could Diag. Things started becoming inconsistent. When you would turn the key on, you could hear the fuel pump relay buzzing, after a few secs, the distributer started making a humming noise. Fuel injectors where going bananas, cycling very rapidly. We checked all grounds, all relays , all voltage, everything. Got tired and just decided to replace the ECM and that solved all our problems. Boat is back up and running, I want to thank the great guys at CCF for helping us out in figuring out this issue. Hopefully this information may help someone else with the same issue |
