Star gazing on a quiet lake is one of my family's favorite things to do in the summertime. If you live on or have access to a lake with minimal light pollution, this weekend should be a great one to see the Perseid Meteor shower.
We saw a few meteors on Saturday night, but the peak will be this coming Sunday, the 11th. If you can get out on Saturday or Sunday night, you should be able to see a great show as long as the clouds cooperate.
You need to let your eyes adjust to the dark for about an hour to really see the stars well. Also, remember to bring bug spray and a sweatshirt or blanket.

we also count satellites...kinda crazy how many of them are flying around

Yeah that is cool too. There's an app you can get called Satellites that shows you the current location of satellites in your sky. You can track the ISS with it as well.
