It's like a ghost town in the City today, starting to warm up though, we are up to -14 now!!

Should have stayed home today, on the way downtown our train whacked a semi trailer in Niles then when we finally get in to the city there is a track switching problem and we sit for another hour. 3.5 hours to get to my office today, ughh.

Yea this end of the house is cool but if we need to I could start the fire place.Upstairs is nice. Furnace has not shut off for awhile, it's set at 71 but is 69 in that room with the thermostat. Wind outside is really blowing. It is 80 where the Mustang is sitting----

We're up to minus 14! Bad enough, but 25mph winds suck. Wasn't fun shoveling snow from walk this morning.

We're finally getting a taste down here of a normal winter up there but no white stuff. 26'F - 7'F for today and sunny tomorrow with a low of 15'F and 27'F for a high....They actually closed the schools around here for two more days because of the bitter cold. They are either concerned about kids freezing at the bus stops or just don't wanna pay the heat bill for 2 days. I can remember it being that cold once or twice when I was kid and they didn't cancel school for nothing and we were huddled together to stay warm waiting on the bus. Seems kinda silly to me. Closing schools because its cold?

Closed here today and tomorrow. Below zero wind chills I guess I can see it.
Back in the day, we just put on more clothes and waited or walked to school.

Had to drive through this stuff from Indy last night. Took us little over 5.6 hours on a normal 2.6 trip but made it safely. Literally had snow up to the hood and snow inside the engine, lost traction few times cause the snow was so deep! Glad we have the skis plate to help move the snow! My wife took a video and will try to post. That jeep plowed through the snow and amazed us!

They close schools because the administrators are scared of lawyers.    1 clueless/gloveless kid gets frostbite, & the superintendent is looking for a new career.

They should at least have the teachers come in for the required training on days like this.

Chris, I guess but closing schools when it's above freezing..C'mon.

I guess I don't understand the philosophy of it's the schools fault because a parent didn't dress their child properly and a get got cold. Then on the make up day and the end of the school year or the fact that the kids lose out on their spring break for make up days parents are outraged because their vacation plans get altered.

Tom ...you're absolutely right...we just put on extra clothes, stood at the bus stop and huddled up to keep warm.

Tired of people blaming someone else for their own stupidity....Man up already!

Tim I'm guessing it was more fear of ice than fear of cold, or at least I hope so. I left 5:15 this am for Savannah and my deck and driveway were iced, and roads a wee bit slick. I grew up in CT but have lived in GA long enough to know that there's not much winter equipment and most folks don't have any experience in the slippery stuff...so if a little ice keeps the buses and cars out of harms way (and my way) that's ok by me.

Something else we had....common sense....you dress warm if its cold out outside. The local high school actually made an announcement to the young ladies last Jan......STOP WEARING FLIP FLOPS AND SANDALS TO SCHOOL...
I guess their moms didn't check to see that they were dressed for the weather or they just didn't care.

People are getting soft. I get tired hearing about how bad the storms are and how cold it gets or how hot. Yeah they call it weather. Severe cold. Yeah it's cold. I don't like it but damn people. Deal with it.

I checked "FindLaw" and could not locate a single case of a school district in any state being sued for a parent underdressing their kid. Are you able to cite a case? That sounds pretty fishy. Remember, 12 people like you and I have to agree the school district was responsible for the event to collect. Sounds pretty crazy. If your school district would fire an administrator for an issue not under his control you have some problems that only the voters in your district can remedy.

I say "embrace the cold". Facing difficulty with courage is the hallmark of a man. I have read enough on the skiing / footing thread to know that there are a lot of men (some females included) on this site. A lot of you southerners are pretty tough and ski in some pretty tough weather. All of you guys posting your plow trucks on the tow thread know about being tough too. If you cannot handle a bit of cold weather how are you ever going to conquer the water barefoot?

Had to layover here in S Beloit Il. because a lot of business were closed just woke up -16 and the heater in truck decided it didn't want to work.Cranked idle up to 1200-1300 got it pumping some heat .Recent oil cooler failure caused contamination of cooling system. That was a close one not a time to loose heat.

I guess it's the same everywhere. Every time it snows, you'd think it was the first time ever based on the news reports. The TV newscasters are so lame, they're comical. They scoop up snow in their hands and explain its constancy. They explain why road crews put sand and salt down, and every other normal thing that goes on in winter.

HEAT WAVE this morning!!... Minus 10 and winds less than 10mph.

I finished plowing last night, minus 12 and wind was blowing 30+mph... didnt want to be out very long. I even left truck running while fueling it last night(I never do that)

It really does feel warm!

.....BONUS!!!!... Supposed to get above freezing by end of week. It's only done that a few times all winter.

6'F in Hotlanta this morning but it's supposed to be 64'F by the weekend....Woo Hoo! Gotta love it!

I haven't drained the water out of Miss Scarlett's block yet but did put a work light under her Blouse to keep it a little warm under the hood. Checked the temp in the garage this morning and it was 35 so I was glad I did. Heck I might have to run her this weekend if it's gonna be 64.
