Anyone know the size of the fitting on the drain end of my oil drain hose on my GT40?

Geez, I think that should be pretty much standard.
I know that my fitting is 3/4" for the nut and 9/16" for the hex fitting on the hose. I can only assume yours would be the same but certainly not positive.
You'll obviously have to convert to metric over the big pond.

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

Ha! I want to say my 88 ford takes a normal 5/8" six point and 3/8" open end for the square.

OK, I stand corrected. They obviously aren't standard.
Damn, just use two cresent wrenches.

The nut on mine is also a hex, not a square.

If yours are hex (6 sided) and brass, you might consider getting an appropriately sized flare wrench set. The flare wrenches get a better bite and are less likely to deform brass.

I think we're all assuming that by "end", he means the end the oil comes out of, not the oil pan side.

BTW, if you need a flare wrench to get the drain plug off the end of the hose, youre putting it on way too tight! Brian, are you the guy at the dealership who installs the oil drain plug on my gf's vehicle with an impact wrench?

Goodness sakes, you want to know a way to see wrenches start bouncing off of the walls where I am quickly? Install a drain plug or a oil filter so tight that I can't get them off. That is probably my number 1 pet peeve, grossly over tightening fasteners.

Hand tight on oil filters and never use more than moderate pressure with a short(normal size) 3/8 ratchet or normal wrench on a drain plug. I can't count how many I have rounded off using proper tools. Drain plug bolts aren't made out of strong enough material to torque that tight. Run them through some heat cycles and bam you have a drain plug that won't come out.

The oil filter sets so close to the headers on my 67 that if you put it on as tight as you can with your hands you will be hard pressed to get it off via conventional means.

just in case there's any confusion, i mean the end the oil comes out, not the end at the oil pan. i wanted to add a female fitting to my oil drain pump so i could screw it onto the drain hose when draining oil.

does this make sense?

Im with you Zach! Oil filters, oil drain plugs and lug nuts... frickin monkeys with impact wrenches.

Darren, sounds like theres enough variation on the drain end fittings that you'd be well advised to measure whats on your boat rather than have us guess!

I deny any involvement in the servicing of other members' girlfriends.

My boat came to me with that brass cap pretty well bunged up already. It looks like someone had used a vice grip or some such on it. Or, it may have been over-tightened and someone fought with it on removal. Either way, I use the flare nut wrench on it now to get a good grip on what's left and to avoid further damage.

Ahhh, that makes sense and is a great idea. Sure beats waiting all afternoon for the oil to make it's way out.

Volvo Penta apparently threads the top of their dipstick tubes for a similar reason:

That burns me up. My dad's mechanics would insist on tightening lug nuts with impact wrenches and not torque wrenches. Needles to say just as much as an impact will over tighten something its very inconsistent in torque specs vs how long you decide to hold the trigger. The loose wheels and such after service work stopped when he banned the use of impacts for final torque specs on wheel lugs.
