So, this year I finally got the boys out hunting. We bought a shotgun so they could do just about anything. We've been out shooting quite a bit over the last several years and have worked with them on safety.

For hunting, we started in early fall and went out a couple times for dove. Then, we transitioned into the youth deer and turkey weekend, and finally the standard deer season, along with our special holiday antlerless deer season. For our oldest's birthday, we worked a deal with a guy to hunt on his private land; he has a good population of deer, but this is his first year letting anyone hunt. He also has a LOT of turkey, so we may be going there for spring turkey, as well. We also set up an outing at the same place for the holiday antlerless season. When it was really cold and the boys were a little burned out, I went out with a friend a couple times.

Our luck wasn't too good this year, but we learned a lot together. We saw a couple does with my oldest son, but didn't have a good shot. I got a shot at one late in the evening when I was out with my friend, but missed. Man, now I know what deer/buck fever feels like.

We will probably do some spring turkey hunting this year, and we have a trip planned to "Nana and Papa's" in WY in October. The boys are really excited about going hunting with Papa, and one of his buddies is very good at getting people a shot at a trophy buck. Our oldest is planning to hunt with the buddy...he really wants to bag a nice one.

Here are some pictures from some of our outings this fall...enjoy!

Great times together. Your boys will never forget the times they spent hunting with Dad!

Yeah, even though we weren't successful in getting something, they seemed to enjoy the time together. The first couple times I took both of them, but they bickered a lot. I alternated and took them out individually, after that. LOL!

Great pictures Andy,

I turner 12 in Sept. (old enough to hunt) My Dad got me a
Winchester 1200 pump 20 ga. for my birthday. Oct. 20 was
opening day for Pheasant in Mi. I was lucky and bagged my first one.

I'm 58 & I'll never forget it. That shotgun is front & center
in the gun cabinet today.

That is so cool. I hope our boys look back on these times in the same way.

There is a thread on here somewhere, about all the great memories some of the members have about boating with their dads.
Mine cared nothing about a boat or boating. My best memories of him are teaching me about hunting and to appreciate the outdoors.
I would give anything to be able to hunt with him again. I am sure your boys will feel the same way one of these days.
