I was having issues with my 83 SN not wanting to idle so i replaced the power valve. Pulled the back bowl off the Holley after replacing the power valve and it was filled with material that had apparently been eaten away by ethanol. I replaced the bowl, adjusted the float and put it back together but it still does not want to idle and has developed a high pitched whistle when you crank it. The Holley has been on the boat since 2006 with no issues to this point.
Any ideas on what my next move should be?
Is the whistle possibly a vacumn leak??

Anyone had any experience with the Quick Fuel M600 replacement for the Holley?

I guess my first question would be why replace the power valve when you have an idle issue? The two aren't related at all. Not even close.
However, if you found debris in the float bowl, my first action would be a rebuild. If there's junk in the bowl, probably a good chance that there's junk everywhere, including the idle circuits.
I personally question the validity of ethanol eating away material but that's another discussion. Put Stabil in your fuel and you'll be fine.
Change your fuel filter/water separator.

The QF series carbs are nice. A couple here have put new QF650 (manual secondary) carbs on their pretty much stock SB engines and getting a little better performance with the exception of sucking more fuel. The 600 is a newer one that QF just came out with not long ago. A few here have used them too with good results as a stock replacement. I wouldn't hesitate to get one.
Try the rebuild first.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

I just had Carolina Carburetor Specialists in Wilmington, NC ( Butch Cottle at 910-762-4695) remanufacture my Holley 4160. They do a bench flow test before he ships it out. He does not have a web-site. He replaces almost everything with new parts expect the body. He applies glue to the Welsh Plugs so they will not leak after the rebuild. He is not cheap and I had a three week turn around, but I was very pleased with the quality of his work. I know of three CCFans that have had good results from him.

Some have used National Carb in Jacksonville, Fla. They also do a flow bench test and actually put it on a test engine before shipping. They advertise $250 for a re-manufacture and I am assuming this includes your core return. This is less expensive than Carolina Carb in Wilmington. They have a great web-site you can check out.

Are any of theses shops Cypress Gardens authorized repair centers?

I am glad you asked. Yes, Lego Land is sending an inspector as a representative of the Pope Family to make sure the carb is in spec. This is why I did not install a tunnel ram with blower to try to keep pace with your little blue hot rod.

Kind of a story behind the power valve thing but i won't get into that.
I did solve the whisting noise when it was running and that turned out to be a leak solved by tightening the mounting bolts.
The boat will crank right up after pumping the gas a couple of times but will not stay running.
I noticed on the Quick Fuel 600 that the fuel line inlet is different from the Holley. Are guys having to splice in a rubber line to adapt to this????
Donald, thanks for the information about the rebuild guys. I may have to go that route if i can't figure it out.

No rubber lines on pressure side,Coast Guard rules. If the line splits or bursts you don't want fuel spraying around an enclosed compartment. Many times you can find a hard brake line to fit or at most have to cut and flare one to fit.

I believe Zach at N3 has those Coast Guard approved rubber lines that Skidim used to have. It was mentioned that these will work with the Quick Fuel. I've yet to see a quick fuel thread complete from start to finish though; it sounds like those lines will work, but I haven't seen it confirmed.

You have trash in it, rebuild it. Call Daytona Parts, give them the list number and get a kit. You may want to go with a 6.5 power valve and an extra carb to manifold gasket.
