I have a 1999 ski nautique and just noticed my voltage gage was at 16 + volts. What is the best way to root cause this? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Get the VOM out to double check the volts. If the 16 is confirmed, them you have a regulation problem. Hopefully you do not have a deep cycle battery!

Definitely check it with a VOM, but it could be that your needle has slipped. Our 99 Sport gauge was showing 18v while running but is actually around 13v. I pulled the gauge and repositioned the needle but after a dozen ignition on/off cycles, it has slipped again. It seems that when the iginition shuts off it slams so hard against the stop that it rotates it slightly.

Pete - What does a deep cycle battery have to do with voltage regulation?

Chris, I have seen some really high voltages when a deep is used. Keep in mind the charge is slightly different with a deep.
