Zach, this is for you. Your name seems to come up here alot. I can not find a single shop with in 50 miles of St.louis that will do the replacemnt of the bushing, let alone give me a not to exceed price for the job. I travel through Indy a couple times a year on my way to North Webster / Warsaw / Tippie. Anything you can do ???

I don't mean to take business from Zach but 90% all of FL sends their struts to Admiral in Tampa. Just a few weeks ago they quoted me I believe $125 to remove, supply and install a rubber bushing. The norm here is to stick it in a "it fits, it ships" box with a return label.

David it's not that hard to do yourself if you have any mechanical ability. Many here have done it themselves using a long threaded rod and a deep well socket if you don't have access to a bearing press. Some have simply used a deep well socket and a hammer to drive out the old one. It's not too difficult of a job.

I have though about making the attempt. I even bought the brass/rubber shaft bushing.
I have a prop puller and can get that off. Just not sure how to drive the old one out with the shaft in place. I saw the newer $400 tool but not spending that. |

For what's it's worth, I bought the XPC bushing for $80. I spent 4 hours beating and cutting the old bushing out 1/4" fragment at a time. I spent twenty minutes putting the new one in. My 4.5 hours is worth more than $45. Next time I'm sending it out.

You need to either pull the strut or the shaft in order to replace the bushing. Realigning the strut to the log is a bigger job than pullin the shaft.
Getting the old bushing out of the strut can be a pain. Putting the new ones in is easy. I would expect any competent shop to also do an alignment as part of the job. Probably not cheap to farm out. |

The Cutless bearing is not that hard to remove and reinstall.
set screws and you can use slide hammer to pull it out. install new one by freezing new one and pressing into the strut. |

It's my opinion that the strutpro is not worth the investment. Getting the old cutlass out of the strut isn't that big of a problem. With A Sawsall or even a hack saw with the blade through the bore, cut the brass shell. This will allow the shell to be loose in the strut. Use the new cutlass with the threaded rod to press in the new while pressing out the old cutlass.
