On my 1972 correct craft skier the exhaust wells, the ones next to frame extending out the back of the boat, stay full of water. This causes floor rot as the underside never dries out. Is it normal for this area to stay full of water? Is there a recommended way to stop this or drain it? I thought I could drill a hole in the frame rails, a small hole, but enough to let the water go into the main area that has a bilge pump. Any thoughts?

on mine there are a couple of drains ones up front in the channel through the stringer and it always gets clogged and there is another where it meets the transom on both sides. The rear one is angled and pretty large the front ones are about a 1/2 diameter

I have a drain in the transom, just one, it does not seem to run to the exhaust channel. It my be blocked but that's only one. No holes in the stringer

On both my 72's there are drain holes(weep holes) through the bottom of the stringer at the stern(all the way back)and like 79 says...they do get clogged! Reach back with your hand and see if you can feel it....should be there. Sometimes they get very clogged and if not cleaned can be packed to the point it almost feels solid...you might not know they are there.

I had the same problem. And after careful searching with my pinky and a flashlight I found 4 "weep" holes in the stringers. 2 in each stringer. One near the back of the engine and one near the the stearn. They were packed solid with crap. I now check these every time I notice standing water in those areas.

I'm wondering, where is the water in the exhaust channels coming from? I've noticed this with my boat too, and near as I can tell my ex hoses are good as well as the through hull ports.

That is a good question. Mine are also in excellent shape, I expect it comes in when off plane, but that is a poor guess as there is no room in the exhaust ports to let water in the channels.

It's comming in those weep holes you could'nt find
Or maybe it's all the beer that gets spilled???? Be sure to seal those holes you made with fiberglass or epoxie resin. |

If it gets in through those weep holes then the water would get out through the same holes and it does not. Also I filled the bilge area with water to see if it would go into the exhaust area, it never did. I followed the stringers and even used a metal hanger poking around for holes to no avail. Seepage through the floor makes a little sense.
If it was beer that would be a real waste. |
