Well......I finally took the plunge. those who followed my posts last year after I bought my 93 SN, I did some serious wet sanding, polishing, etc and all new decals. Well...she looked great after that..there was STILL just ONE area that had been repaired by the previous owner I just wasn't happy with. I mean..you could hardly see it, BUT...I COULD see it, and I knew it was there, and was unhappy with it.

So......today..my family headed home for a few days for a College visit, so I am here by myself and I decided to dig into this old repair and fix it up right.

First I ground out all the old repair, and then started filling in with resin and a chopped/strand mix then with fabric and mat.    Here are my pics so far, just got this all done in one day. Tomorrow I should be able to finish up with shaping it like original, and then start gel coating.

So Far So Good.

Amazing speed on your project. What caused the original damage?
I'm not a glass worker yet but it looks good.

Nice progress.   Now the fun begins, the gel coat.
Only one color of black BUT a million colors of white.
Good luck on the rest of your project. Duane

Mrmcd....the damage was due to something falling from the PO's rafters onto the boat. They had filled it with car bondo and then spray painted it. I hated it. So now I am repairing it correctly. Duane, color matching will be easy. Last fall after I wet sanded, I filled some small chips using spectrums color kit. I found it was a hair too light, so added some spectrum blue (just a very small amount) and matched it up perfectly. I should be able to get this close enough it will be very hard to tell anything had ever been damaged.

Poly or vinyl glass (boat was made with a vinyl-epoxy blend)? Certainly looks like a much better repair than last time, ha.

I used vinyl, it has better moisture repelling properties and is a bit better quality than Poly I think.

Few more pics of today's work

Dan,
Very nice work. It's a pleasure to see. It's always amazing how some go after a repair not knowing what they are doing. I'm defiantly putting the PO's repair in the back yard hack category!!

Thanks for the kind words Pete. Yeah the PO's repair was in the category of bad automotive bondo job! And while it didn't look too bad, it just kept eating at me, simply because I KNEW it wasn't right. While my old 93 still ain't showroom quality, it'll look a hell of a lot better than it did a year ago, when I bought it.
