I am having a few problems with my 1986 2001 with the 351.

1. Won't idle unless i adjust the idle screw
2, I t will run good for about a 1/2 hour and then looses power. It has electronic ing. I check the rotor cap and saw some rust I then to the plate od and the springs and magnets are rusted bad. Can I clean the magnets or do I need to replace then or the whole distributor?

Thanks

The magnets you refer to are probably the flyweights for the mechanical advance mechanism.

They're magnetic but they're not magnets

You can and should clean all that stuff so it operates freely.

Losing power after about a half hour can be a whole variety of fuel or ignition issues.

If you do a search here on CCF you'll get lots of hits, read the stuff and then ask more questions with more detail about your issue.

86 should be a Prestolite distributor with a screwdown cap
