Spam

Looks like the Chinese were busy this morning!

Turned 'new registrations' back on last night and this happened again. Turned it off this morning and am cleaning out the spam ... again.

I feel there are way too many vicious people in our world. I noted this latest batch came from Korea and I suspect it's North Korea. Kim Jong holds a vengeance and I understand he has people that specialize in cyber bullying .

During my day job I work on building and maintaining large scale web frameworks so I can maybe help lend some advice to helping stop the spam without limiting active-real users.

- You could add in another step to your form validation function to block the use character that are not ASCII 32-126.

A javascript function like....

var containsUnacceptedLanguage = function (text) {

    }
    else{

- During form validation you could check the last time a user made a post to the forum and if it is less then a couple seconds you could stop the user from posting until a certain time has passed. If the user keeps trying to post than you can disable the account. I believe the spammer is running automated scripts to make the posts so this would block the scripts from making posts.


These are probably your best bets. Other solutions could affect 'good' users.

Okay, step 1:. I have set that I have to approve all new registrations. We'll see where that takes us. Wanted to avoid this but email verification was not secure enough so I will now have to personally approve.
