Does anyone know anything about the F3JE-CA heads? Apparently they are GT-40 marine heads but aren't stamped 'GT-40'. They have 2 bars on the side of the head, not 3 or 4 like the automotive Gt-40 and GT-40P heads. There isn't much info out on them but I found a rebuilt set for $ 300 and I'm trying to figure out if these are worthwhile over my stock set.
Here's the confusing part: My stock heads also have 2 bars on the side but they are run of the mill heads and the casting starts with 'E'. From my research, anything that starts with 'F' would be classified as GT-40. Anyone have any insight on this? |

The F means the heads were from the 90's and the 3 narrows it down to 93 being the first year they were produced The J means they were for the marine/industrial division and the E means they were from the engine department. Plenty of confusing info floating around, but I bought a set hooked to a dead OMC/Volvo Penta version of PCM's Gt40, used them to replace some E7TE heads and they definitely had a power increase. My understanding is that they were some of the first of the marine GT40 heads. They didn't have the three bars of the later heads These were on a 93 or 94 model year engine, a year or two before PCM jumped on the bandwagon with the GT40 engine. To me, they're worthwhile for 300 Canadian bucks if they're fresh. |

GT40 heads all used different spark plugs than the standard heads did.
Autolite 764 or any equivalent are what fit GT40 heads and the standard heads take a Autolite 24 or equivalent. A 24 won't screw into a GT40 head, so if you're in doubt, take one of your plugs from your standard head and try to screw it in. It shouldn't engage any threads in a GT40 head |
