Advice please:
I just looked at an 07 SV211. It has a new Jasper 350 (new hoses / accessories) with 37 hours of fresh water time on it. The total time is 380. I am trying to get the records from the shop that put the motor in to understand the history. Based on what I saw on the skegs and swim platform attachments, it looks to me like it’s been in salt water with a previous owner. Where else should I expect problems or should I take a closer look? Maybe ballast system? How much does salt history affect resale if the new engine/accessories are fresh water? Appreciate any insight you can share... |

Folks will tell you 3-5 years on the manifolds if used in salt or brackish. As far as the ballast, certainly the pumps and valves would need to be looked at, and inspected.
Why the engine change at such low hours? Plenty more questions to be asked on a relatively new-ish boat, that went through an engine change and really low hours.... |

ultrurunner,
Thanks for the insight. Was just looking the records. Looks like everything on from engine, accessories, manifolds, pumps (bildge, fuel, ballast), steering cables, and gages, audio amp were all replaced. My guess is the boat was partially submerged, either dockside, or was launched without the plug. It became inop, and the Marine Dealer bought it and restored it. It's pretty clean now, upholstery in good shape for a 2007, runs well. Talked to the Mechanic that did the work, and he wasn't sure about the history - just that they got it as a project. Then sold it to current owner who is selling for something bigger. What do you think? |

I think I’d pass. It might be a good deal but there will be another good deal too.

Saltwater is one thing, a new block is one thing, a potentially flooded boat is a whole other can of worms that I wouldn’t want to tackle.

No warranty remaining. I spoke with the dealer that did the work. They sold to current owner who put 38 hours on it and wants a deep v cruiser. He’s asking 30.5. I an
considering 24-26 range given the history. It’s local and It currently runs very well, just not sure what problems could lurk in the future. Also considering a pass as was mentioned. For comparison Found a 2006 211TE with 1400 hours but looks clean asking 28K. Also spoke to an owner of a 2007 211LE (no tower) asking 24.5 with 500 hours - but cost about 2K to ship that to me. Contemplating all 3, or D) none of the above. |

Thanks Orlando,
I’m not sure that it was flooded, just guessing based on everything that was replaced. The mechanic said they wen through and just tried to make it all new, but I’m trying to guess why it was all needed, and that’s what I come up with. Boat history is clean in terms of damage, but just trying to imagine what would likely cause that. Appreciate all the input on this topic. |

Well, if this boat turns out to be some killer deal that you can’t do without, it would be easy enough to track down the original owner and get the scoop on what happened. That would be a minimum in my book. But, as you know, tons of other good boats out there, with more to follow.

probably ran it without oil , , I wouldn't be to worried about it unless it was totally submerged like a submarine.

Thank you...I've reached back to the mechanic that did most of the work for the Dealer, to see if I can get a better assessment on the history.
Appreciate all the wisdom being shared. |

If by chance it was submerged in salt water , you know what salt can do to electronics .
