Hey guys,
So I got report back from the transmission shop on the 40-2A transmission. The spline is completely separated from the housing, so a new tranny is in order. I've considered the 80A replacement, but with the engine rebuild and everything else, its just out of my price range. (Shipped to Canada from Skidim 80A = $4000 CAD) I can get a new 40-2a from Fred Warner shipped to canada for $1900 CAD. Its just too much savings...I'm going to order another 40-2A. I want to put a oil cooler on the 40-2A to extend its life. Skidim has a 5" oil cooler with 3/8 NPTF oil line ports and 1" hose barb. Does anyone know what the oil feed and return port thread dimensions are on the 40A/40-2A? I have an email into skidim and fredwarner, but both can take a few days to respond, so I wanted to ask here. Lastly, how long of oil line would you get (Skidim has 13/21/28/36 in)? |

Wow, catastrophic failure for sure. I would go back with the 40 also.

I wanna say there 3/8 npt on the trans. Depending on where your going to mount your cooler dictates your hose length but there usually a 13’’ and a 21’’

Thanks Joe, will do. Just for reference, the prices I've got so far are: Fred Warner: 40-2A with hoses, brackets and cooler parts for USD $1591 + US$ 68 shipping (FedEx ground) to Canada. (reuse damper plate which was new in 2011) Skidim: 80A complete package including cooler, lines, new damper plate for $2512 + $200-300 for shipping to Canada. The current exchange rate since COVID from USD to CAD is 1.40 which is the painful part because the BigMac index is not that different otherwise. |
