So after 1 year of owning 4 runner, even though I had my last (covered toyota care) visit service less than 1,500 miles ago... I slid under there with my grease gun to find that the stealership never greased the drive shaft yolk and spider joints... 6 points that take 5 mins to do! The spider joints were bone dry.
Reminds me of when I bought my 99SN from a guy that had a full service done and documented by his nautique dealer by a certified pcm mechanic... never even checked the impeller than was torn to shreds! So next time you are looking and see CERTIFIED PREOWNED... just remember that is a marketing tool used to sell a vehicle they raped someone of on a trade in and have marked up 100% after their tech did the bare minimum. Or when they ask if you want to purchase that TOYOTA CARE after the first year free... answer is NO thanks... |

That is why I do all my PM myself. On my 4Runner, the underside is fully armored with RCI skid plates. I have to remove armor every 10K to grease U-Joints and splined shafts. One U-Joint at the transfer case is a bugger to get to. Oh well, the joys of vehicle ownership.

Yep... this one was purchased brand new... only let them service it because it was covered... my previous 4runner I bought one year old and two weeks into owning I noticed a clunk... that is when I learned the previous owner never greased... and how if you just do it every other oil changes...
Needless to say I had to order one of those wrenches for the oil filter canister etc...

Not Correct Craft related.....
I went with a Baxter Performance oil filter adapter so as to delete the cartridge style filter. 4Runner now takes a standard spin-on canister filter. Love it. Check it out at BPAdapters.com JQ

 Second I can’t believe you still have to grease the universals on those rice burners. I can’t remember the last truck (or car for that matter) that I bought that I had to grease a universal.
 That’s just dumb! |

My Jeep has them but it is 20 years old. I also purposely put greaseable ones on the front axle shafts since they take a beating and not fun to change.
What I don't understand is why pay 200 bucks for an oil filter adapter. European cars have been using the cartridge for quite awhile. I was skeptical at first on the plastic housing and had bought a spare,but ever needed it. Were on our third make with them on- I think they are here to stay

Every diesel (Ford & VW) I’ve owned have cartridge filters nothing new here.
Really easy to change unscrew the cap pull the old one out drop the new one in.
