Hey guys,

Just curious if anybody else has heard the engine almost "squealing" for a short bit (1-5 min) when starting engine cold. Seems to go away after it warms up and have no issues with engine temp after 5 hours of running. Is this something I should be concerned about?

As always thanks for the feedback in advance.

Likely as simple as a slipping belt issue. Check the pulleys.  Check for the belts for condition and proper tension. If the belts are are old/worn/cracked replace with new and tension properly. While the belts are off turn the water pump and alternator pulleys to check for any obvious bearing problems.

Sounds like a loose belt.  While it is squealing pour a little water on first one belt and then the other.  Belts squeal when they are slipping, a little water will lubricate the belt and it will quiet until the water wears off.

Besides belt tension, check the alignment of the sheaves too.

apolonie:  We know what you meant, but it's a "Pro Boss" not a "Big Boss".  Sorry for being picky.  Well, not really.  We are glad you found this site, though and hopefully you get the squeal sorted out.

haha yes totally correct, don't know where I got "big boss" from. When you guys check your belts for tension do you use a tool or just by hand? Can't say I feel confident in knowing if the belts depress by a 1/4" or not.
