'94 SN PCM 351/1.23, 750 hrs......
Inspecting the dampener plate. Triangular, rivets tight, no broken/cracked springs, but a little play in them. Don 't now if original or previously replaced. question: Should the springs be held tightly? Thx

It's Bueller's day off
I figure that's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't type of things. You may think it's good, put it back in and a handful of hours later it blows itself apart or maybe it's good for another 1000 hours. Being 27 years old,and not knowing if it's original, most people would say to replace it while things are apart. How many hours are on the boat? Edit....I see 750 in the first post I'll say low hours, little play............reuse it. But don't blame me if it falls apart. It's what I'd probably do, not necessarily what you should do I figure that'll probably make you want to replace it or if nothing else generate some opinions for your thread.

As always, sage advice. Since I can now remove the engine/trans unit in less than 30 min.....I'll be takin' me chances on the plate. I've not yet driven this thing, so I'll be listening...thanks!!

I'm not sure I've ever seen a triangular PCM 15 spline plate, could you post a picture of it?
Is there a part number anywhere on it.

I reused mine during my transmission fiasco this summer. I felt that I just did not have the time available to pull all that extra stuff off. I have something like half the hours you do though. That one looks so nice and since your comfortable with pulling the trans that if it were me I think I'd give it a go. I also have to fully disclose that I have not replaced a damper in any inboard I own,they may even have the originals

Well, after a long and semi exhaustive search, I stumbled into the video in the link from SkiDim.
He's doing the plate on a same era ProTec engine like yours and the plate looks just like yours and seems to be the original that's been changed in later years to the full round plate. So now I've seen pictures of 2 of them He's gonna reuse the one in the video since it didn't have much play |

OK, I guess I should've searched longer than 15 sec. Or maybe typed "PCM marine flex plate removal" in google....... But thank you for that vid link which, while eerily familiar, shows the same plate and a brief inspection thereof. Now we're both exhausted
