I have a 75 Correct Craft Southwind 20 with an Escort 351W. I have a bad alternator. Part number ALK-6220Y-1M. I cannot find one anywhere. Does someone have an alternative part number, or suggestion as to where to look please? Any help would really be appreciated.

Look for a starter / alternator rebuilder have them rebuild it. Side benefit is that you know it fits.

After searching all day, I came to that solution as well. I am just going to have that one rebuilt. Thank you Gary for pointing out the obvious. Like looking for my phone when I'm holding it in my hand.

Since that alternator is an externally regulated Prestolite have you verified that the issue is the alternator itself and not the external regulator?
If you're headed to an auto electric shop bring the alternator and the regulator with you. If it's gonna cost an arm and 3 legs and take six months to get parts to fix it, there are marine alternators that are more modern, have internal regulators and are reasonably priced that will bolt in with a few small wiring changes. Lots of places sell Delco style (secret code for copies from various different countries not named the USA) single wire and 3 wire marine alternators that can be installed fairly easily How easily depends on whether you have a voltmeter on the dash (easy) or an ammeter (harder wiring job). In 75 it was most likely an ammeter. Just another avenue you could take, if you want more info on doing that just say so. |

Keno, I verified output at the alternator. So I THINK i did that correctly to isolate the issue. I would be interested in more information regarding a more modern alternator. I don't want to have to do a lot changes so I would prefer to stick with the 3 wire but with decent instructions, I can do anything. There is an ammeter.

Here's a link to a thread with talk about the 1 wire and 3 wire Delco style alternators If you were to get a 3 wire of around 65 amps, you'd wire it as shown in the linked thread, your orange wire to the alternator output terminal and the excitation wire would be the 12 volt wire that right now feeds your external regulator. You find the wire going to the regulator that has 12 volts with the key in Run and extend that wire to your alternator as shown. The regulator gets removed since it's not needed. Look at DB electrical part number 400-20012 or punch that number in on Amazon, EBAY etc. About 100 bucks. The fuse on the output is to protect your wiring running up to the ammeter and back to the starter solenoid on the engine. It's the 10 gauge wire that's Orange that you're protecting. There may be minor shimming involved for belt alignment. I remember you getting your water pump all figured out, you'll have no trouble with this
