Is this mess a simple case of a stuck float?  I took the bowl off after seeing this. Gasket is pretty beat up so I cant reassemble until kit comes in next week.

A little history.  Maybe someone has other tips for me.

Boat has run great for 5 years.

Every now and then I check top speed, just to check.  Its down a couple MPH from 44ish to 42ish.  Wasnt to concerned, dont need 44 so I was going to wait for off season to look into it.

Then started loping at idle.  Did that 5 years ago. I fixed it by taking bowls off and cleaning out everything you can get to by doing that, which fixed the loping problem.

Did the same thing this time, but was much more hasty about it, which may be my problem.

After reassembly, loping was gone, high speed not affected.

But then, started running rough at all speeds and being a little resistant to start.  Thats when I took off flame arrestor and saw the fuel running all over the place.

Since the loss of high speed, I was also thinking fuel filter (inline, not cannister or the newer boats) might be worth replacing.  Not done yet.

Any other thoughts/ideas?

Since it looks like all the fuel is coming from the secondary float bowl, I'd guess that taking that bowl off will show you the problem.

Could be junk between the needle and seat or assuming that you pulled the float off as part of the cleaning, that pesky little circlip that holds the float to it's pivot shaft may have come off and the float no longer pivots the way it should and is holding the needle and seat open causing the overflow.

Can't hurt to replace the filter along with fixing the inlet needle and seat leakage Wink

Ken,  Just to clarify.  That spilling fuel is indicative of a stuck float?  If so, not sure why it would be sticking.  As part of my quick clean up last week, I did not go so far as to remove tne needle and float mechanism.  I just opened it up and blew through it and squirted some cleaner through it.  So it was not a case of bad reassembly.  Not sure why, if it was definitely a case of stuck float.  I am going to do another disassembly and clean out as soon as the new kit comes it.  I will be more thorough and careful next time.  I'm just asking you to confirm it was stuck float and that I dont have to try to track down anything else.  Also, would that cause Idle to be rough as well.  That wouldnt seem to be true, but I dont know a whole lot about it.

A stuck float, either due to hanging open or a piece of junk between the needle and seat would have to be the most obvious reason.

I'd remove the float, then take the needle out and unscrew the seat and blow things out.

The needle has a small spring that makes sure it moves with the float and there's a thin gasket where the seat screws into the bowl.

The O ring on the transfer tube can get pinched when putting the bowl on and a piece can end up in the needle and seat holding it open.

With that much leakage, it's surprising that the engine would idle at all, instead of just flooding and stalling

You missing that old Edelbrock right about now Larry?  Wink

PS.....sometimes you take it apart, blow it all out and find nothing, put it back together and everything is good

Back in my Edlebrock days I always had to listen to the purists poo-poo Edelbrocks, while I always read posts about Holleys being hard to adjust, and fussing with power valves and metering blocks and adjustments.  My Edelbrock always ran fine, tho admittedly, the idle passages had a way of clogging up, needing cleaning every year or two.  I got so I could do that in about 45 minutes, one handed and blindfolded.  Holleys intimidated me.  Not so much now.

That pretty much describes how I fixed my loping idle 5 years ago.
