I was listening to Limbaugh, Beck, or Reagan last week and one of them said you just say "Feliz Navidad" and you're in the clear. So Merry Christmas...I mean "Feliz Navidad".

I agreewith you Boat Dr. It appears that walmart and Targwet have also found out the hard way that NOT saying/advertising Merry Christmas has hurt them and they realize that. Therefore they changed their policies and encourage employees and such to say it and have promoted it. Jesus is the reason for the season and you CANNOT have Christmas without CHRIST!!! Futhermore if you do then I would expect all government offices to be open on Christmas Day (and Good Friday) and I want my mail delivered on those two days. You gonna take it out of schools and ban nativity scenes from city halls and such then you better be working on those days and not have the day off to Celebrate!!!...............I APOLOGIZE for being on my soap box gang but this subject is one I'm very strong about. Thanks for letting me vent........MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

Dear Children,
It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking my name out of the season. Maybe you've forgotten that I wasn't actually born during this time of the year and that it was some of your predecessors who decided to celebrate my birthday on what was actually a time of pagan festival. Although I do appreciate being remembered anytime. How I personally feel about this celebration can probably be most easily understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don't care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate my birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Now, having said that, let me go on. If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn't allow a scene depicting my birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santa's and snowmen, and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If all my followers did that, there wouldn't be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town. Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made all trees. You can, and may remember me any time you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a teaching explaining who I am in relation to you and what each of our tasks were. If you have forgot that one, look up John 15: 1 - 8. If you want to give me a present in remembrance of my birth, here is my wish list. Choose something from it. 1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way my birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of year. I know, they tell me all the time. 2. Visit someone in a nursing home. You don't have to know them personally. They just need to know that someone cares about them. 3. Instead of writing George complaining about the wording on the cards his staff sent out this year, why don't you write and tell him that you'll be praying for him and his family this year. Then follow up with, "It will be nice hearing from you again." 4. Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts you can't afford and they don't need, spend time with them. Tell them the story of my birth, and why I came to live with you down here. Hold them in your arms and remind them that I love them. 5. Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and forgive him or her. 6. Did you know that someone in your town will attempt to take their own life this season because they feel so alone and hopeless? Since you don't know who that person is, try giving everyone you meet a warm smile -- it could make the difference. Also, you might consider supporting the local Hot-Line: they talk with people like that every day. 7. Instead of nit-picking about what the retailer in your town calls the holiday, be patient with the people who work there. Give them a warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren't allowed to wish you a "Merry Christmas," that doesn't keep you from wishing them one. Then stop shopping there on Sunday. If the store didn't make so much money on that day, they'd close and let their employees spend the day at home with their families. 8. If you really want to make a difference, support a missionary, especially one who takes my love and good news to those who have never heard my name. You may already know someone like that. 9. Here's a good one. There are individuals and whole families in your town who not only will have no "Christmas" tree, but neither will they have any presents to give or receive. If you don't know them (and I suspect you don't), buy some food and a few gifts and give them to the Marines, the Salvation Army or some other charity which believes in me and they will make the delivery for you. 10. Finally if you want to make a statement about your belief in and loyalty to me, then behave like a Christian. Don't do things in secret that you wouldn't do in my presence. Let people know by your actions that you are one of mine. P.S Don't forget: I am God and can take care of myself. Just love me and do what I have told you to do. I'll take care of all the rest. Check out the list above and get to work -- time is short. I'll help you, but the ball is now in your court. And do have a most blessed Christmas with all those whom you love and remember, I LOVE YOU, Jesus |

I can't truthfully say I'm a Christian, but Christmas is a great holiday that brings out so much warmth and love in people I think MERRY CHRISTMAS should be shouted when ever anyone feels it. Most religions bring such great lessons to the world. Even if you don't consider your self a member of a particular religion why denounce such a positive time?
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Have a great New year! |

boat dr's, post from Dec. 4 quotes "Jusus" as saying not to support stores that are open on Christmas.
Well in persuing what makes me happy and wanting to share it with my kids, I work part-time as a ski patroller at the local ski hill so my kids get free lift pa$$es. The owners of the area have decided to be open on Christmas day for the last few years. They demand that any regularly scheduled employees work the holiday. With the commute time involved these emplotees miss the entire day with family. If any of you know of for profit businesses open on Christmas let them know how lame it is. Oh by the way. The owners of the resort are Mormons and do not show up on Christmas or Sundays. |

I believe that every ski area in Tahoe is open on Christmas. I know Squaw valley is open for skiing, the restaurants, and the shopping facilities. Others I can think of would include: hotels, casinos, many restaurants, some bars, 7 Eleven, and gas stations. For those of us in sales, many end up working at least part of the day because it is the end of the fiscal year for many companies, and there are deals which need to be closed. When I was a lawyer, I usually ended up working part of the day as well. It's great to be with the family, but I guess, sometimes you've gotta do what you gotta do. BKH |

Yeh, I understand that line of thinking, but this seems to be a theme in our society, gradually the money becomes more important than people. I did'nt always feel this way but now days I really strive to work to live not live to work. I make a lot less money but I'm much happier. Seeing how my kid's faces light up when we put up a Christmas tree and then how bumbed they would be if I was not there on Christmas.Makes a days pay seem worthless. It's one thing if you can't put food on the table, but most of us can. I just like to remember that if you patronize a business on Christmas you are telling management it's profitable to keep employees from there families on the holiday.

79's last post is right on.I don't think anyone should have to work on Christmas,or any other major holiday. If they insist on opening, the OWNER should be right there beside you.The last sentence about keeping employees from their families pretty much sums it up.

Mike,
I can't see you turning wrenches on Christmas. Something tells me that you'd have a thing or two to tell your boss. Ken |

I agree 100% with you guys. But I work in the auto industry, if they say we are working x-ma$$. I work it, gives me extra money to put into the BFN. Plus I don't have kids yet. I can ussually swing it so that I work midnights and I am home before my wife wakes up. Then we go see the fam.

I agree with the no working on Christmas. Any business willing to squeeze those extra dollars is just taking advantage of their employees. Ok...what if your wife forgot to get the cranberry sauce? Does that count? I think it does. You can't have it both ways.
For the "Happy Holiday" greetings at various stores....We live in America (greatest country on Earth) so that we can have diversiy, including freedom of religion. I am a devout Christian, but I don't go around with my nose up at people of other faiths. Christmas is not the only holiday celebrated in December. Why not be polite to all religions? That said, I greet people with Merry Christmas, because I want them to know that what I'm celebrating and hopefully they are/or someday will be too. Merry Christmas. -John |

I think it is virtually impossible for ALL businesses being closed on christmas. I just cant imagaine driving up to a ski resort and not seeing 1 gas station to refuel at, 1 motel to sleep at, 1 place to buy a lift ticket at, etc... vacation places are ALWAYS open on christmas. So, that being said, I think there are some establishments that HAVE to be open, but I think it is VERY wrong to FORCE someone to work on that day. If I were an owner of a ski resort, I would keep it open, make the money, ask people to work, but if they say, "no, i'd rather be with the family," i'd say "OK," not count it as a sick or vacation day, and pay the people who DO decide to work time-and-a-half or double-time.... Hey, I'd work on xmas for double time... One of my xmas eve dinners was a turkey sandwhich in the car on the way to VT to ski.... there are many who dont do much on that day and would be very willing to take advantage of being paid extra to work then...
But just to make sure this is clear, I think it is totally wrong to make someone work on christmas. I know plenty of people that have taken business days off for other religious purposes, not nearly as big at christmas... Anyway, isn't there a law preventing people from working on a national holiday? |
