When I try to Start my 1985 ski nautique the engine will not turn over. It sounds like a tick tick tick. I checked the battery and the battery is fine. if anyone knows what this could be just get back to me. thanks

Sounds like starter or relay. If you cross the relay and it turns, then replace the relay. They are inexpensive. If crossing it gives the same tick sound from the starter, it is probably the starter. You could try tapping the starter with a hammer a few times. If that makes it work, its days are numbered. You would best to get it rebuilt.

Typically the ticking sound is coming from the Solenoid, and it is caused by the Charge in the battery being low. If you have a charger, or another battery I would give it a shot. If you have a voltometer and can verify your battery has about 12.5 volts. then check your wires for corrosion, or bad connections. If you have a connection on the battery, that is loose,and you can turn it by hand easily, that can happen also.

I got the boat running. I bi passed the selinoid and then tried tapping on the starter but neither worked, so I figured iw as going to need a new battery anyways and then i jumped it and it fired right up. Thanks guys.. Tyler

Sounds like you found the problem, good news! Might be a good idea to make sure your positive cable to the starter has a good clean connection while you are at it, might have contributed to the problem a bit. Just make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable first.

One more peice of advise: Nautiques are notorious for electrical connection issues. Check all of your connections. Re-fit them with dialectric grease.
