Hi, Yay! I finally got my boat back and the floor is perfect. The throttle is kinda stiff though. If I am accellerating and I let go of the throttle it jumps back towards Idle? Is this a transmission allignment problem or the throttle cable? I can't handle anymore problems. I just want to enjoy my boat for the rest of the summer. Thanks, Lisa.

Lisa, I have been wondering about where you have been with all your problems!
I know someone will be able to answer your question with direct knowledge but I do believe there is a friction control on the single lever. The other thing is when they put the engine back in they may have hooked the return spring up in the wrong hole at the carb. Don't forget that you need to tell us the full story. |

Thanks, I will check the spring for starters. It has been a while since I have been on the forum but I am having internet connection probs at home and it's difficult to talk at work. I haven't forgotten about the full story. When I picked up the boat they gave me pictures of all the problems from the prev shop. Thanks Eric...second time is a charm with the stringers and the floor but I have some steering and throttle issues at the moment. At least I can get out on the water. I would like the boat back to normal tho. Lisa.

Lisa, If the other hole gives you LESS return pull, move it to that one and try it. What's up with the steering?

When I first got the boat back I couldn't turn it at all so I loosened the nut on the steering wheel and it turns but not nearly as tight and for some reason it just dosent seem to be centered??? Lisa

Lisa, These are really issues that the guys re doing the stringers should have corrected with a lake test but I do know you did want it back this summer!! OK, I know someone will come in and talk about the nut on the wheel. Was it the big nut under the dash in the center of the helm? The wheel not being centered is adjusted by moving the rear outer tube of the steering cable in the clamp block that is attached to a stringer. It sounds like they may have screwed it on slightly off position. It is under the center section of the floor aft of the engine. I'll try to locate a picture for you. I found one in a thread where a wrong inner cable was purchased. The 4 bolts in the white bracket are loosened so the tube that is clamped to it can be adjusted fore and aft.

Thanks, I won't be able to check the steering and throttle until this weekend. The boat is at the the Lake but I need to quit playing on the Lake and look at the issues. I would like the boat to run properly. Thanks, Lisa

I disagree. The clamp block should be connected to the cable where it allows full (and equal) range of motion of the rudder in both directions. The position of the steering wheel should be corrected at the helm. The initial orientation of the wheel when the cable is fed through the helm will affect the final straight position of the rudder/wheel. To correct it, note how far it is off from straight. Loosen the nut connecting the cable to the helm, and rotate the wheel until the cable is fed all the way out (and no more). Vary the wheel position by the # of degrees it was off, then reinsert the cable and tighten the nut. |

Lisa, Tim is correct as well so you will need to check his method too. Since they have redone the stringers, I thought of the clamp block position first.

I forgot the stringers were new. You'll want to double check and make sure you have full/equal range of motion in both directions. Count the turns lock to lock and then go half way. Make sure the rudder is straight. If not, adjust the clamp block so it is. If its OK as-is, just make the adjustment at the helm to straighten the wheel. |
