Went out on the lake after work today. I think todays high was around 60. By the time I got on the lake it was 54. The lake is starting to get a bit chilly up here in Wisconsin where I live. I didn't wear a wetsuit or anything, wish i had one , when i got home it was 50 degrees. This sucks.

What kind of temps until you put on your wetsuit?

Only put it on for barefooting. Never due to cold.

Phil, Where are you in Wisconsin? If you would rather not say on site, email me through my profile. I may have missed you saying where and did look via a search but couldn't find it.

I'm actually in the process of buying some diving booties for taking the piers in/out. That 40 degree water hurts!

If wearing a wetsuit is going to extend your season and make you more comfortable, then it's worth the 100 bucks to get one.
Best tip for skiing in the cold weather/water- get out of your wet clothes and into warm dry stuff as soon as you can. leave a winter hat and fleece in the boat too.
What drives us off the lake is not the temps, but the low water after columbus Day.

Last night in upstate NY on owasco lake 85 degrees, water temp 71-72, and ten square miles of glass to ski on all to ourselves. Over at Bowen's ski pond down the road the water was 78... won't last long though coldfront coming through today.

I pull out the wetsuit for boarding/skiing at about 66 degrees water temp, or for extended wet boat sailing on cold days no matter what the water temp.

I have a siter and brother in law that live in Milwaukee and he's always talking about the great race track they have in Slinger. He says they've got some wild races. Do you ever make it to that track?

Jim, you're in MI aren't you? You better have a drysuit if you plan on skiing in November. I could get by with a full length wetsuit into early Oct. when I lived in WI., but the drysuit was definitely needed after that. I have skiied into Dec. and we would try to get back on the water in late March. Water temp was 38 and the air temp was 36 on the coldest conditions I've been out. Let me tell you, that was freakin' cold. Snow was still on the shoreline of the lake. I'll never do that again.

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

I haven't lived in Slinger very long, only a year as my wife and I just built a house here. I haven't actually been to the race track but I've been by it a lot and it's only a few miles from where I live.

Hollywood,

If you recall I have pics posted on here with the date showing on them december 8th. I can re post them. That day the air temp was 40 and the water temp was 42 degrees according to the temp gauge in the boat. I am just that crazy. Usually only make it out once in November, after the 15 deer sean gets in the way and sometimes ice.

Backfoot, I would love the dry suit but no one will go with me once I need that, they say it's to cold. Wished a couple of you guys lived closer.

Couple times up by Brownies place in Northern Michigan skied in the spring, 40deg water slightly warmer air, wetsuit under drysuit. 2 years ago at Trophy Lakes over spring break, water was cold and the air was only 50, wetsuit. Makes you sure love summer!

Fill,

IIRC, TRBenj, Hollywood and myself stopped in Slinger on the way home from GL to fuel up, short ride for you to GL next year.

That is crazy! Just a barefoot suit in 4X water? Unfortunately I don't remember you posting the pics, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything.
