As you can guess, the thread is actually titled “Eric, dearbomatic”. What’s funny is that it’s Pete’s thread! Pete also started a thread called “Eric, What is it?” reading people

Pete, do you know someone named Erik and that is why it sticks in your brain? I don't mean to pick on you, but thought you might like to know what you've been up to. Those were only the most recent dozen. You also started a thread called “Eric, What is it?” in which he correctly referred to our trans expert as Eric! I think it is more funny than anything, strange how the brain works. Probably won’t get a response until ~4am now that I imagine he is on his way home to a nice chicken dinner. A lot of people like to say "motor" when they really mean engine. I don't think I've ever seen Pete refer to an engine as a motor. Now that is original! (grammar) |

Come on HW! What is this "pick on Pete day"!!! You must have spent some time doing all the research. You also have a very good memory. Something I wish I still had because I can't remember some of my own posts you have brought up. I'll have to start referring to you know who in some kind of code! He is just a popular guy.
By the way, a motor runs on electricity!! Don't even ask why they call the engine hanging on the boat transom a outboard "motor" or why Detroit is called the "motor" city! |

Not according to Dictionary.com! mo·tor /motər/ –noun 1. a comparatively small and powerful engine, esp. an internal-combustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, or the like. |

noun
"a comparatively small and powerful engine, esp. an internal-combustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, or the like." "Also called electric motor. Electricity. a machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, as an induction motor." Tim, I thought you would have the gearhead dictionary. Your's is missing some of the description! Yes, it is one of those words that can be used many ways. That's the fun part of the English language. |

Pete, I don't bother to 'pick on' people I don't like...I'd say this is an obscure form of flattery!
And I'll work on my use of motor and engine. |

The topic started out as being called intervention, I watched this show last night called intervention and thats what made me think of this topic...not to change it, but this normal head of the PTA at school busy body woman fell into drinking, she would polish off 4 pints of Vodka a day and for a night capper she would guzzle a 32 ounce bottle of mouthwash, her kids were included in the show and it was a gut wrencher and i thought about it all day.
did anyone else watch the show? |

This is an excellent winter thread. Props to HW for the excellent research and keen observation. I applaud Chuk for the funniest reply. I'm impressed by Quinner for his public confession.
I saw one of those intervention shows tonight for the first time...it was pretty gruesome. |

it got my dad at 42, and i really never understood why until i seen that show, it was something i really never thought of until yesterday. i have very faint memories of those times. with this woman it looks like something took over and nothing else mattered except to drink and now i understand why its labeled a disease

I didn't see the show, but I had a friend drink himself to death a few years ago. He seemed to go from a casual drinker to a serious drunk in just a couple years. I couldn't believe how booze took over his life and how enebriated he was able to get on a daily basis. He got arrested one time because he was trying to get into the wrong house late at night. He couldn't figure why his ket didn't fit the door. He ended up with an enlarged heart and died. It was tragic.

I myself have been on the inside looking out, not a good place to be.
Karen and I watch the show on a regular basis, and with each show, We get a fresh start. There goes me but by the grace of God. Denial is the biggest hurdle to over come with any addiction, and that aint a river in Egypt. After a few years in the program my anonymity matters very little, as most of my friends on this site know. Those 12 Steps are a life lesson for anyone living in today. Karen and I met at an AA meeting many years ago , and after Brenda and i divorced we saw that we made a pretty good couple. As far as loosing our loved ones to this disease, have seen a lot come and find recovery and others die a slow meaningless death. It is sad but true,My life had become unmanageable, but a power greater than myself restored me to sanity, that one is God. Sorry for the ranting and my take on this subject , but it is Christmas and I have So Much To Be Thankful For......One Day At A Time |
