I hope all the CC Fans in the North East are safe.... sounds like a real pounding right now.

By VALERIE BAUMAN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 15 minutes ago

ALBANY, N.Y. - Drivers in much of the Northeast navigated a treacherous mix of rain, sleet and snow Monday as a storm blamed for at least 16 deaths slid through the region after pounding the Upper Midwest.

Schools canceled or delayed classes from New York to Maine as the region's first snowstorm of the season whipped up wind gusting to 40 mph.

At the same time, a new storm system was wreaking havoc on the West Coast and expected to give the Midwest a second blast of snow.

States in the Northeast put hundreds of plows on the roads, including about 650 in New Hampshire alone. The speed limit on part of the Massachusetts Turnpike was cut to 40 mph as police reported numerous traffic accidents around the state.

Most courts in Maine closed for the day and Gov. John Baldacci considered sending state workers home early. Communities around the state imposed parking bans for Monday and Tuesday to make way for snowplows.

"It's snowing so hard you can hardly keep your eyes open," said Bill Swain, spokesman for Maine's Sugarloaf USA ski area in Carrabassett Valley.

The National Weather Service said a foot of snow was possible in northern New England, with the potential for 20 inches in northern Maine. Winter storm warnings were in effect in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and northern and western New York.

Nearly 26,000 customers were without power around noon Monday in Connecticut.

The tail end of the storm raked northeastern Ohio on Monday with wind gusting to 50 mph, and up to a foot of snow was possible in the area along Lake Erie into Tuesday.

Power outages in northeast Ohio northwest Pennsylvania had blacked out more than 20,000.

We got the wind here in Michigan, but not alot of snow. About 1-3 inches saturday night depending on where you lived around me. Sunday winds in 20-30PMH range with 40PMH gusts. Today same thing high winds no snow or rain though.

Eric

Yep- Winter in New England. I love it!
Once the boat is put away in storage it can snow all it wants, cause we'll ski on that too.

I have a feeling jbear will chime in here and remind us all how warm it is down in Fla

Take a couple runs for us jbear, we'll do the same on some frozen stuff.

Here in NW IL, they predicted 4" of snow last Sat...followed by freezing rain. We ended up with only about 1" of snow, followed by about the same in ice, AND 30mph winds. We lost power Sat afternoon at 4. We finally got it back this morning (Monday) around 5am.. house temp was down to 52.......so yes Todd, I think our boating season is over....

We had a cold front last night and today's high was only about 60, down from nearly 80 yesterday. Tomorrow is supposed to be a hair warmer. Hoping to get in the water. Will send pics if I do.

EriC, It's funny that as we age, the themometers seem to be less accurate. They seem to read higher now than they did when we were younger! I put a couple extra logs in the air tight last night!

I was lucky enough to slalom this past Saturday and Sunday on the course in NC. The air temp was 50 and the water 55, cool but tolerable, certainly much nicer than compared to you guys up north. Looking forward to my annual Christmas Eve swerving. Bundle up.

I bought a new snowthrower last Friday, and they are forecasting 4 - 6 inches of snow tonight. I imagine the snow will skip my house.

That's why i don't even think about didgging out the snow plow until I need it the first time. Same with the snowmobiles. Some years it saves you from doing all that work for nothing.

Didn't ski today. Climbed in the water and wade fished in the bay instead. Didn't catch any keepers.

I have to check the battery in my wife's sled, replace a couple suspension parts on my dad's sled. For the most part my brother's and my sled are good to go. Expecting a couple inches of snow tonight. Either bring on the snow or bring back the the water skiing temps. You know 45-60 degrees. Kidding would like it much wamrer than that if it will not snow.
